Set in a 1912 townhouse with a modern addition, this casual hotel in the Auckland city centre is 5 minutes’ walk from Sky Tower and 12 minutes from both the Auckland Art Gallery and the shops of Karangahape Road.

The straightforward rooms and suites have flat-screen TVs, sofas, and tea and coffee making facilities. Limited free Wi-Fi is available. Upgraded rooms have kitchenettes, and suites add separate living rooms.

The staff are friendly. The room is clean and the size of the room is good. We arrived almost midnight, there is a convenience store a couple of mins walk away that sells halal food.

Will stay here again if we were to.come to Auckland again.

The room was spacious. Best thing was our kids stay for free. Wifi was good.

Cleanliness was superb. Location was amazing, only walking distance to Halal Restaurant. Check in & check out process was smooth. Overnight parking was NZD30 per night and the parking was secured.

Everything is so nearby as the hotel is situated in the city centre. It is very near to restaurants and shopping centres, so you can just walk to go anywhere. As you can see, the location is the main attraction of this hotel. The hotel is very near to the Sky Tower, so we walked to reach there. I guess this hotel is very popular among Malaysian travellers as this hotel has a halal Malaysian restaurant too.

The room was moderate in size and had 2 lifts. The beds were really comfortable and the TV channels were varied.

Food excellent, portions were huge and we had enough for next day’s lunch after our first meal there – they wrapped it up for us to take. Breakfast was good, all the meat is halal, so chicken bacon, but could not tell the difference. The restaurant staff considerate and friendly.

From this hotel, a short walk to anywhere. Certainly good value for the rate we were charged.

For NZ standards, this passes for 5-star. The Skybus from the airport stops almost right outside the hotel, so makes it super convenient. Also located on Queen Street and walkable to the Viaduct area, so right in the heart of the CBD area.

If you have a car, there is no carpark, so you either opt for valet service or park in the commercial carpark down the road.

Rooms are what you expect for a Mercure. Not very large but comes with all the mod-cons. You either opt for a view towards the city or towards the sea. The sea-view in my opinion is not really necessary as you only get a partial view through other buildings and currently construction for the underground rail is in progress.

Top floor has a restaurant with a nice view of the city. If you check out, the concierge can keep your luggage for you if you do not need to get to the airport so early.

Location was perfect for us, close to restaurants, shops, and not the least the ferry to Waiheke. Cannot say anything about restaurant, as we took the opportunity to eat at the elegant Ortolana bistro at the nearby Britomart Pavilions.

All rooms feature flat screen televisions, free unlimited Wifi, iPod docking stations and kitchenettes.

A spacious well equipped bedroom meant that the brand has consistent standards throughout as indeed did all other aspects of the hotel. Its location just back from the harbour front was perfect for our two night stay prior to taking the ferry to South Island. Could not fault the valet parking either.

Rooms are older style but they have everything, in some rooms they even have the kitchen sink. Big bathroom with quality toiletries; bath with shower over (I’d prefer a walk in shower). Very good heater (once you figure out the controls) although it is noisy. The bed is comfortable and TV has most of the channels you want. The lifts work well with almost no waiting time. Some road noise on lower floors.

Walking distance to city shops and bars.. but best of all it’s all in-house, a good bar with snacks and small meals; a restaurant that’s excellent. We didn’t use the restaurant this time but ordered food to eat in the bar area.
