How many mosques are there in Sri Lanka?
More than half (about 60%) of total registered mosques in Sri Lanka are jummah mosques. According to Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, there were 1820 mosques other than Dharga and Shrine in 2002.
They are found in every major cities, small town and villages where Muslims are living as community.
The Muslim friendly hotel means a hotel that has Islamic characteristics that can provide basic facilities that are more friendly to Muslim customers such as a Qibla direction indicator, the availability of prayer tools, the presence of halal food / list of nearby restaurants that provide halal food.
Like other tourists, Muslim travelers coming from Islamic countries have particular requirements when they choose the destination for their vacation. Among these requirements, Muslims are concerned about the availability of halal compliant foods (no pork or alcohol in food) and a clean place to pray.
Many international hotels in Sri Lanka do serve halal food that is slaughtered in accordance with the teachings of Islamic Sharia and is free of any substances forbidden by Islam such as pork and alcohol.
Other Islamic countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman and Brunei continue to be popular with Muslim tourists. Among non-OIC countries, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, Japan and Taiwan remain the top five respectively, but show improved scores on the index.

Mr Jayantha and Mr Deveen in particular were very accommodating and willing to accommodate the special requests of each family member to ensure our stay was enjoyable.
We enjoyed the clean, comfortable, and airy rooms. We were surprised to discover that the minibar was available on-site.
The gardens and pool were fantastic, although the beach was inaccessible due to the current season. We were entertained, however, by a variety of activities that compensated for the beach.
The food was excellent (especially the Sri Lankan cuisine), with a wide variety on the buffet.
There was also halal certification for the food, which was a plus for Muslim travelers.
As a Muslim, I would prefer that non-halal food is kept apart from other food.
I also saw that there were many Arab nationals visiting, who would also like that food to be kept apart.
The room was pleasant and clean, so we decided to take the advice of other reviews and go with a lagoon view.
The sea view didn’t provide much reward as it was partially blocked by palm trees, and the pool was right outside your window – whereas the lagoon provided an enchanting night-time experience.
As for wildlife, there were plenty of chipmunks, birds, and even some lizards that skittered past from time to time!
A lot of attention is paid to the cleanliness of the room, from the towel sculptures and flowers left on the big comfortable bed to the mosquito spraying done daily.
The air conditioning works well, which is essential if you aren’t used to hot nights.
With plenty of loungers surrounding the pool, it is small but clean and well kept.
During the evening, live entertainment often takes place at the resort, such as singers, dancers, and the like.
This can be heard throughout the resort when it is on.
Alternatively, you can sit at the bar or outside at one of the tables and enjoy a peaceful experience, and you won’t have to wait long for drinks.
Overall, we loved our time at Avani and couldn’t recommend it more highly.
We were generally happy to hang around the resort all day on days we weren’t on tours, even though it is a bit far away from the town.

The hotel was clean, the breakfast was excellent, the a-la-carte menu was excellent, very reasonably priced, the portions were just right, and the food tasted excellent.
The staff was friendly and polite.
This is the place to stay if you’re looking for Halal food, the pool was clean, and the gym equipment worked!
It’s definitely the place we’ll choose again if we return to Colombo.
Throughout our stay, the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
It is an excellent hotel for Muslims, and we did not have to worry about the food since it was all Halal-compliant.
There was everything you needed at breakfast.
Besides the balcony, the room has a huge closet, separate shower area with rain shower option, and a health faucet. Toiletries are also nice.
There were no complaints as the hotel is centrally located and the only halal hotel in Sri Lanka.

A top-notch hotel with top-notch facilities and services!
Breakfast was incredible and the food was very good.
Nice natural beach and perfect swimming pools (one for adults only).
The staff is extremely kind and nice, and the rooms are very modern.
Golf and a great gym are just a few of the daily activities for the whole family.
There are two other pools along with a wonderful kids pool. You can do yoga, golf, jogging, there is a gym and even trampolining – the facilities are fantastic.
Hanging seating is all over the place, so you can always find a peaceful spot.
Our family also enjoyed the spa, which was reasonably priced and had good treatments.
We had a great breakfast – there were so many choices and the quality was excellent. The same was true at dinner, as there was a good wine list.
Staff were very friendly and helpful – nothing was too much trouble for them.
The rooms were spacious and had all the amenities you would expect from a five star hotel. We stayed in both Deluxe and Premier Ocean rooms.
The beach is nice but the sea is rough, so you cannot swim in this area. The hotel has breathtaking views of the ocean.
This hotel has everything from water sports, acrobatics, yoga, nature walks, cycling, golf, and a kids’ play area. There is also a gym and a spa.
There was a great variety of food at breakfast and lunch, but dinner was a bit lacking.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone with kids.
