Halal Hotels Xi’An
Muslims are a minority group in China, representing between 0.45% to 2.85% (6 million to 39 million) of the total population according to the local government. Other independent sources claim between 60-80 million Muslims in China
By Crescent Rating, China is 50th rated among most Muslim-friendly countries.
How many mosques are there in China?
In of 2014 there were 39,135 mosques in China, 25,000 of these are in Xinjiang, a north-west autonomous region, having a high density of one mosque per 500 muslims. In China, mosques are called Qīng Zhēn Sì (清真寺, “Pure truth temple”), a name which was also used by Chinese Jews for synagogues.
Like other tourists, Muslim travelers coming from Islamic countries have particular requirements when they choose the destination for their vacation. Among these requirements, Muslims are concerned about the availability of halal compliant foods (no pork or alcohol in food) and a clean place to pray.
Many international hotels in Xi’An do serve halal food that is slaughtered in accordance with the teachings of Islamic Sharia and is free of any substances forbidden by Islam such as pork and alcohol.
Other Islamic countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman and Brunei continue to be popular with Muslim tourists. Among non-OIC countries, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, Japan and Taiwan remain the top five respectively, but show improved scores on the index.

To be surprised with a room upgrade after a long flight, was indeed a sweet start to our Xi’an trip. Our stay definitely exceeds our expectations – free wifi, complimentary mini bar, fruits (at the lobby), mineral water (at every floor!), laundry room, complimentary afternoon tea. Even though the breakfast was not halal, there was more than enough fruits, cereal and beverages to keep us full.
Every staff we met, smiled and greeted us without fail. Once a housekeeping staff was cleaning up our room while we came back from breakfast. She was apologetic but assured us, she is almost done with her work.
A new, modern with touch of oriental hotel. The location is perfect – central but away from the busy main road. It is just a 15 minutes stroll to the bell tower and 20 mins to Muslim Street. A safe area to walk around and you will definitely be lost.
A room with complete amenities. Nothing is lacking! We had a very comfortable sleep with a reliable heater in chilly Xi’an.
For the same rate that you would pay for the hotels at the main road (near the Drum Tower), this is definitely worth every single cent. Highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again.
Room was similar to Marriott or Hilton type and in US. Snacks and water bottles were provided everyday in the room. We had a room rate that includes breakfast and it was well worth it.
Nice setting and plenty of food to choose from. There were places to eat across the street, and within a 10 minute walk was the Muslim Quarter that resembles more of a street fair full of food stands.
This hotel is ideally located – close to the south entrance to the wall which we cycled around, easy walk to the Muslim area for great food and a five minute walk to the subway and an easy trip by subway to the main railway station. The free afternoon tea offered each day was lovely and the free washing machines and drier was a bonus halfway through our trip. The room had a great view out over the city, the beds were comfortable, the shower had good water pressure and the rooms were lovely and warm.
Staff were friendly and most spoke some English. We wished we had been able to stay we an extra night and would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is very good. Right next to a metro station and taxis and Didis all seem to know it. Check in was very quick. Room spacious, extremely modern, well equipped, international travel adapters (including USB ports) provided, international TV channels available, generous amount of complimentary water. All very well cleaned as well.
Breakfast buffet very good. Enough seating even at peak times, large selection from Western, Chinese, and other Asian cuisine – one day it was Indian, one day it was Malay.
The executive lounge feels more like a Marriott than a Sheraton – great food choice, service, and ambiance.
Of course there are more local places to stay in in Xi’an, but this is a very good, safe, and good value for money choice.
The hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the north gate of the city wall. Other than that it isn’t close to much. It is fairly close to a subway station so it is easy to get places.
