Halal Hotels Zanzibar

Islam is the most prominent religion on the semi-autonomous Zanzibar archipelago and could be considered the Islamic center in the United Republic of Tanzania. Between 98 percent of the population in the islands are Muslim, with the vast majority being Sunni Muslim with a minority Ibadi, Ismaili and Twelver Shia.

By Crescent Rating, Tanzania is 55th rated among most Muslim-friendly countries.

How many mosques are there in Zanzibar ?

Zanzibar is predominantly a Muslim town. In the Old Stone Town of Zanzibar west of the former creek, covering an area of about 80 hectares and with a population of about 18,000, there are about fifty mosques. 2 There is at least one mosque, often more, in every mtaa (ward) of the town.

The Muslim friendly hotel means a hotel that has Islamic characteristics that can provide basic facilities that are more friendly to Muslim customers such as a Qibla direction indicator, the availability of prayer tools, the presence of halal food / list of nearby restaurants that provide halal food.

Like other tourists, Muslim travelers coming from Islamic countries have particular requirements when they choose the destination for their vacation. Among these requirements, Muslims are concerned about the availability of halal compliant foods (no pork or alcohol in food) and a clean place to pray.

Many international hotels in Zanzibar do serve halal food that is slaughtered in accordance with the teachings of Islamic Sharia and is free of any substances forbidden by Islam such as pork and alcohol.

Other Islamic countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman and Brunei continue to be popular with Muslim tourists. Among non-OIC countries, Singapore, Thailand, the UK, Japan and Taiwan remain the top five respectively, but show improved scores on the index.

Excellent room & view especially the sea view is spectacular!!

The lavish seating arrangements at every corner with variety of seating choices throughout the hotel makes the stay even more pleasant!

In Hotel Verde, I stayed in room with a sea view. Rooms are spectacular, huge and well arranged. I was impressed with a desk phone that has a Bluetooth speaker, so I had a moment to enjoy my own music, and they have a very fast wi-fi. Bathroom is big and well designed.

One can bath and the other attend a toilet concurrently, with enough privacy.

The place is few kms away from the city centre, there are enough cabs for go & return.

Perfect and big swimming pool that you have access to it 24/7. Also there are water sports like, sea bikes, kayaks etc.

The resort is ringed by a natural coral reef, making bathing a relaxing and safe experience.

The hotel is the perfect destination for honeymoon or wedding vacations as well as meetings & incentives.

We have had the privilege to stay at The Level-segment of Melia and were truly amazed by its exclusivity. To begin with, everyone kindly greets you (jambo) and is willing to help.

From the security guards to the waiters; they all make sure that you have nothing to worry about (hakuna matata).

Each night they served a high quality three or four course meal in one of the many restaurants and offered plenty of foods and drinks to choose from during the day.

The ocean view from our pavilion was breathtaking and felt very private.

The property itself is quite big but extremely neat and tidy; you even need a ride to get from one side to the other – which they are more than happy to provide at your disposal.

This place is a paradise. Absolutely gorgeous and huge resort with warm and welcoming staff.

The private beach is a piece of heaven.

The food in all 5 restaurants is amazing (we do recommend the all inclusive deal because otherwise it can get rather expensive).

The pavilions are absolutely amazing, no amount of pictures can fully encapsulate the beauty of the view from the room.

All facilities are great.

Staying at the Level, Melia was an unforgettable experience!

We stayed in the romance ocean front pavilion room which was beautiful, the house keeping was always attended and even dress down the room at the end of the day!

The food was 5* quality! Breakfast and dinner at the level is amazing feels like luxury.

We had an amazing experience at Aqua & jetty restaurant also.
Lunch at gabi beach bar is beautiful on the beach and amazing quality food and service.

The staff go above and beyond! I really cannot fault this hotel.

3. Zanzi Resort 5* – Halal Resorts Zanzibar

Zanzi Resort

Zanzi Resort is situated on the shore of the Indian Ocean, 15 km from the historic town of Stone Town and a 30-minute drive from the Zanzibar International Airport.

Each spacious villa and bungalow offers an intimate environment.

Ocean-front villas have a private patio with a pool, a lush tropical garden, and a gazebo draped in mosquito nets.

The bungalows are located in the garden area with access to the main swimming pool. A guest relations attaché is available to help plan day trips and excursions.

Guests can choose to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner in their private villa or bungalow, in the restaurant, or on the beach.

We offer local cuisine prepared for an international palate with fresh seafood accompanied by organic vegetables and spices picked from our own eco-plantation.

On 6 hectares of landscaped gardens, this posh oceanfront resort is 6 km from Cheetah’s Rock, 11 km from the town of Mangapwani and 17 km from Changuu Island.

Featuring thatched roofs and exposed beams, the 7 luxe villas come with private gardens and pools.

The 6 posh bungalows offer terraces, and upgrades have 2 bedrooms and private beaches. Butler service is available.

Amenities include an open-air exercise area, and a restaurant with a thatched roof and international-seafood cuisines.

There’s an exercise room and an outdoor pool, plus a sail boat for excursions. The spa area has heated slate-stone beds.

Zanzi Resort sits on the edge of the Indian Ocean, 15 km from the historic Stone Town and 30 minutes from the airport.

Thirteen spacious, artistically designed villas and bungalows offer an intimate environment.

Villas feature private pools, patios, gazebos, and tropical gardens. Zanzi Resort garden bungalows, made of local wood and clay, are designed in the African spirit with a contemporary touch.

Zanzi completely outdid itself, even after reading hundreds of reviews, my expectations were still exceeded.

The resort itself is stunning, set in a lush tropical forest and the (2nd)best part about it is the privacy, they only have 12 or 13 villas so you’ll never feel crowded like you can at most large scale resorts.

Our stay was so peaceful and exactly the reprieve we needed from our busy lives.

Now the best part of our stay was the staff, they were so incredibly friendly and every request was met with a smile and fast, efficient service.

We even enjoyed a private dinner on the jetty one night to celebrate my husband’s birthday and they came with a little surprise (I won’t give it away, you’ll just have to stay to find out :P)

Not only is there is no fee on room service, there are also phones places around the resort IE jetty, pool, beach for you to call and order drinks and food etc.

Breakfast doesn’t have a specific timing so can you order when suits you. Dinner, oh boy where do I start?! We are huge foodies and we LOVED the food! Their chef is a rare talent indeed, everything from the flavours & the presentation to the pairing was DELICIOUS.

The sea can be a little difficult to access particularly during low tide so they built a beautiful long jetty from which you can swim/snorkel from or even just sit and watch the stunning sunset.

It’s not the same sand and water that you find further north but the hotel offers day trips to Nungwi among other places.

(We stayed in Nungwi a few nights before we came to Zanzi resort and we could have easily made it a day trip. Nungwi does have beautiful beaches but that is ruined hoards of tourists and vendors trying to get you to buy something every 5 mins.)

As the resort is built around a tropical forest there is so much beautiful wildlife, if you keep your eyes peeled you might be lucky enough to see some very cute animals.

(N.B this resort is set in a tropical forest so if you can’t handle a few small critters, you should probably look for a vacation in an urbanised city, not a tropical paradise.

Having said that we used the repellent they provided and had zero issues with mosquitos, they also have mosquito nets for when you sleep).

In short, I would absolutely recommend Zanzi resort to anyone looking for a relaxing or romantic holiday.

Zanzibar Halal Hotels
Zanzibar Halal Hotels

The resort is outstanding, unique and authentic african/jungle experience. They only have 13 villas if I remember correctly. Each villa/bungalow provides absolute privacy and your own garden just for you to use.

We were welcomed by the sales manager Emi, who was incredibly friendly, helpful and explained everything in the intro-welcome tour.

If you report any issue/concern, Emi deals with it immediately and goes beyond everything to resolve it!!

Amazing. The accommodation was spacious and great. We tried garden bungalow and also ocean-front villa with a private pool. The villa was amazing, superb, unique, simply the best.

We would not choose the garden bungalow (it has insufficient insulation and you can hear the night jungle all night).

The hotel provides room-service free of charge, therefore you can order your meal/drink to your room, to the beach, to jetty – and they have phones everywhere so you can call them.

The dining experience in this hotel was also great – they provide a la carte option only, but this is the best they can do and is absolutely worth it.

The dinner menu is never known beforehand, but the chef prepares it every night based on fresh ingredients he has that day.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was always amazing including authentic african performances, and the staff is simply stunning, friendly, smiling, always helpful, they know you by your name and remember you.

This hotel really exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it to everybody.

Absolutely incredible atmosphere

On a white sand beach along the Indian Ocean, this casual resort in a complex of thatched-roof buildings surrounded by gardens is 57 km from the historic buildings in Stone Town and 63 km from Kisauni Airport.

A spectacular view of the Indian Ocean from almost anywhere on the resort makes this all-inclusive property a wonderful choice for those guests looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation.

Fantastic swimming pools, a beautiful beach with clear, turquoise waters and amazing sunsets all add to the ambiance!

The rooms are large, approximately 80 square metres for Superior Rooms and 100 square metres for Suites.

A spacious bathroom with a large bathtub, separate shower and double sinks provide luxurious comfort.

All rooms include a quiet split-unit air conditioner, TV, fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, a safe and a terrace from which to enjoy the view.

The road to get to the hotel is very bad, this was probably the only drawback.

However the resort itself is stunning. Beautiful white sands and clear blue sea.

Our room was beautiful as well, a massive room with a great view of the sunset!

The restaurants were nice, The spice restaurant was better with a buffet and more variety.

The cliff restaurant, was ok but nothing special especially since it was called the Al’a Carte. However, it had beautiful views of the sea and sunset.

We were told the meat was all Halal.

The staff were friendly and everyone greeted with Jambo.

The spa was lovely. I would definitely recommend their Hot Stone massage.

Chef ali went out of his way to ensure our strict halaal requirements we adhered to.

On the positive side, the resort is amazing. Great facilities, large swimming pools with swim-up bars, late night bars, 2 restaurants.

The food was probably missing local options, including seafood (surely sea food is more than just tuna!). I wonder whether they felt that including local dishes may upset the multitude of Russians.

The staff were amazing, 100% friendly! Fantastic beach around us. Sea is warm and you can walk along the beach for miles.

Clean white sand! Yes, there are some beach boys, but these are everywhere you go in the world, and they leave you alone very soon.

Beautiful artwork is sold along the beach.

There was evening entertainment, including a Maasai dance, and a fantastic beach side evening dinner with live band
