We picked this hotel to be near the Christmas Market and the old downtown area. All were within an easy walking distance. Parking was simple and just a few steps away in a public garage that the hotel had arranged the payment for.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Our room was spotless and modern. Overall the City Hotel Ost am Ko has to be one of the better hotels in Augsburg.

Our room was functional. It was plain without any wall decorations. All of the expected amenities were there but in a compact layout. The breakfast was excellent! The hotel was kept very clean!!
The Hotel am Rathaus is in an ultra-central location.
The building is completely renovated and modernized (as most German cities can show buildings 200+ years old, if not flattened during WWII), architecturally quirky little pensions and hotels/B+B’s that have been updated to a good standard and level of comfort.
The rooms are tiny but they have all amenities one can hope for and even the tiny bathroom is so cleverly designed that space, or lack thereof, becomes a non-issue. The beds are super-comfy and the linen white-white and crisp.
There’s even a good sized “refridgerette” in the room – an unusual encounter even on an international budget chain level a very hard to find item these days, but hey – Germany has a reputation for coming up with thoughtful design in terms of usability plus esthetics for the eye.
The breakfast buffet is laden with a wholesome, tasty, fresh and substantial range that can easily stand up next to any gourmet Intercon buffet at a fraction of the price.
Overall, I loved the Hotel am Rathaus for its excellent value and uncomplicated, warm and friendly staff.

Our room was large, well appointed, clean, and very nice. The bathroom was of good size and very bright. There were plenty of cabinets for storage of our luggage, clothes, and Christmas Market souvenirs.
The bed was very comfortable, the climate control easy to operate, and the in room safe easily accessed. We heard zero guest or traffic noise when we cut the lights out to sleep.
The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Very extensive, high quality meats, fish, cheeses, sausages, speck, breads, fruit, juices, jellies and marmalades, breads, and wonderful coffee (many options for types of wonderful coffee). There were cooks assembling trays to replace dishes as they began to run low.
One very nice lady cooked eggs anyway you wanted them. Even with options for omelets, Eggs Benedict, and too many options to name. I really enjoyed the Weisswurst with sweet mustard and pretzels.
The employees working during breakfast were pleasant, hard working, and took care of everyone’s needs. Plates were cleared quickly and refills on coffee appeared almost seamlessly. Just an outstanding way to start the day.
The location afforded us easy access to the transportation center, just a few blocks away.
The main area where the large central Christmas Market was located took 5 to 10 minutes of walking.
We used the trams and buses to see much more of Augsburg.

We visited the small Christmas Market at the Center City Galleria.
This is the very best hotel that we have stayed in Germany. We recently returned from visiting several Christmas Markets and this hotel and the Augsburg Christmas Market was simply the best.
The hotel is lovely, gracious with welcoming service and is just 2 blocks from the Christmas Market and the shopping area of Augsburg.
We also enjoyed a light breakfast at a lovely small bakery just down the street. Ideal hotel location, parking ($15) in back of the hotel, and an easy walk to the Christmas Market.
