Hotel Basel is a great base of operations for any visit to Basel, and was a great choice for the beginning of our trip for Christmas Market season.
Hotel Basel is many things – First Rate, Great Central Location, Personable Staff, Comfy Room, and a Terrific Breakfast in a lovely dining area situated below Floor 0.
It is not what I would characterize as “cheap” for those looking for all of the above which will not come cheap in Switzerland (or certainly not Basel).
But if the question is “Value for the Money,” this location should be among the short list of hotels one considers.
We were assigned a top floor suite with a lovely view of old town and extremely nice accommodations. robes, slippers, separate bathtub and shower. The room had a smart TV, thus we hooked up a HDMI cable and watched a movie downloaded on my phone.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is one of the best hotels we have stayed, and we have stayed at many. We can definitely recommend staying here.
Hotel Basel was in a brilliant location. Right in the middle of the shops and very close to the main points of interest.
Also very close to the Christmas Markets, I believe approximately 300 metres.
The Hotel was quiet and clean and had a restaurant down stairs. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Hotel was moderately priced.
Perfect location, in the city center, few steps from tram stop, with shops restaurants and bars all around and, and during Christmas season, a block away from the Christmas markets. Excellent service, Front desk staff always smiling and willing to help.
The breakfast staff is very polite and helpful. They even learned our coffee preferences from the second day of our stay. Housekeeping service is also of high standards.
The rooms are refurbished and very clean. Although you can not say that the double room was not comfortable If it was more spacious it would be better but that not a big issue. The breakfast was also nice. I highly recommend it.

It is within easy walking distance of all the main sights and while we were there, the Christmas markets.
Rooms were all fine (‘most had been refurbished so modern bathrooms). Lots of UK freeview channels on the TV in the room so available if you want some downtime from exploring the town! We picked the hotel because of the location and easy walking distance to the Christmas markets and it was prefect !
Free transport on trams in the Basel city area was a nice bonus ! Option for a quick breakfast (5 €) was a great idea. Will definitely stay there again for another weekend break.
The rooms are very clean and modern. The room was a suite style with a separate seating area and table by the tv, but i assume all the rooms were like this. It had a huge comfy bed, lots of storage, a fridge (with water, soft drinks, non-alcoholic beer.
All of which is chargeable if used). Hair drier, USB charging points at the side of the beds, so no need for plug adaptors to charge phones, which was very handy. The TV has lots of English speaking channels. Bathroom with a huge shower, double sink, shampoo and shower gel included, and all very modern again. One thing that i would of liked in the room was a kettle. I quite like a tea/coffee as soon as i wake up and that would of been amazing.
The rooms seem pretty well sound proofed, we didn’t hear any other guests coming or going. When we requested two more pillows they were delivered to the room almost instantly. There was no a/c in our room, but i doubt you would need it too much. Heating was pretty full on, I had to pretty much turn it off as soon as we arrived.
The hotel is in a very good location. Just a 5-10 minute walk to the city centre.
The side of the hotel that we stayed on was opposite a church, and the bells did sound a few times while we were there. If you had the windows open it was quite loud, (i quite like them). If they are not your cup of tea, with the window closed you can hardly hear them.
The christmas markets were amazing. Totally eclipsing any I’ve been to in the UK.
It was within easy walking distance of everything.
The trams were close by, restaurants were close by and Christmas markets were a short stroll away. It was a fairly quiet area. The steps were a steep but quick shortcut to the edge of town. I was a little worried when I booked, but it turned out to be fine.

The staff were very welcoming and accommodating, giving us good advice and help when the light in our room was not working.
On our first trip to Basel, we chose this hotel to be near the Christmas market. We were very pleased with the usual high standard of Swiss hotel service during our entire one night stay. Hotel is located in the old town quarter and is a few mins stroll to the Christmas markets. Room were simple and stylish, very comfortable.
Dining area was lovely with all you could hope for in a buffet breakfast. Adjoining salon du thé was much appreciated, as was the short walk to the secure parking lots. Highly recommended.
My room was one of the artistic room with impressive interior.
The room 3 was spacious, unique and comfortable with all the modern equipments functioning perfect while I feel staying in an atelier. Breakfast was excellent and the coffee they serve customize was one of the best I have ever had. I could enjoy walking in the historical part of Basel within 5 minute during the Christmas market season.
I would like to come back with my family in the near future.
The breakfast was lovely, with a variety of cereals, breads, fruit, yogurt and pastries. We had the chance to visit Basel Christmas Market which was totally awesome! We shall definitely return to the “Der Teufelhof” soon.
