This hotel is fine for an overnight stay – we went for Christmas shopping, Close to shops & lots of restaurants. Room was quite small although the bathroom was larger than the average. Old hotel but had everything you need. Nice soft towels, fruit & water provided free — no fridge but plenty of tea & coffee.
No restaurant in the hotel but The Jam factory across the road is where you have breakfast & as it is a café it was very busy around 10am. Breakfast was adequate but not very good value, Staff were helpful & friendly.for the price paid. Parking for £5 per day was a bonus in Oxford.
Yes, it’s a threestar hotel, so don’t be expecting a four-star! Small reception area and currently the bar and restaurant are being refurbed, so it was “breakfast in bed” each morning…but what a great breakfast, served at a time to suit you by a lady who greeted you with a massive smile. What a nice way to start the day. The rooms appear to have been refurbed, especially the bathrooms. I would swear I was the first to use mine! Ultra clean, very comfortable and well stocked with tea/coffee/ biscuits. The bathroom was also well supplied with toiletries.
Just one down-side. The windows are single glazed with secondary glazing. It could be a bit noisy at bedtime but, really, I wasn’t too disturbed. Finally, every single member of staff we met was lovely. Yes, we’ll be back.

The modest rooms all include en suite bathrooms, and have flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Some retain original features, such as fireplaces. Rooms are stair-access only.

Set on Broad Street, surrounded by historic University Colleges, The Buttery welcomes you to enjoy the wonders of Oxford from its central location. The Buttery provides room only guesthouse accommodation in a choice of rooms, all en-suite and decorated in a neutral style with light colours, some also with original fireplaces.
We are in easy walking distance of a number of museums, theatres, the main shopping areas as well as variety of restaurants and pubs.

This was a return visit to The Buttery, and a bit of a contrast to the last occasion which was during the blazing hot summer. The room was on the Broad Street side overlooking Balliol and also the Christmas market. The bathroom was nice and warm, serviced by a very hot radiator. There are no surprises to the room which was clean, spacious, and fully functional. I chose a deluxe room for a bit of added space and luxury. I didn’t feel at all disturbed by noise at night, although in the afternoon there was an accordian playing busker playing outside on the street which was amusing more that it was irritating.

I found the reception staff to be very friendly and helpful, just as they were last time I visited and made me feel genuinely welcome as a customer.

Adequate, clean, good value for money, well located and comfortable accommodation. No frills, food or bar. It’s an en suite room only deal.
The staff are courteous and polite. You can stash your luggage before and after check in to make the most of your time in Oxford. Turn right out of the door and walk to the end of the road for the Bridge of SIghs, Bodleian Library, Sheldonian Theatre, Radcliffe Camera and the Science & Natural History museums.
The museums may not be open til towards midday, but they’re there. There are sandwich shops on Broad Street and also a pub opposite the Sheldonian Theatre. We found most, but not all, establishments were card only and charged London prices.
Upside is you will have saved money booking this accommodation. There is tea and coffee making facilities, a TV and we had air con and a fan in our room. Very comfortable and adequate for our short stay.

Tower House Guest House

This 17th-century guest house is an historical building on a quiet, traditional street.

It is in Oxford city centre, surrounded by Oxford University colleges, a 2-minute walk from all the shops.

The Tower House has charming old features, such as wooden ceiling beams.

The rooms are decorated and furnished to match the building’s history and style. There are also modern touches, like tea/coffee, free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV (with Freeview).

Set in a 17th-century townhouse across the road from Jesus College, this cosy guesthouse in the city centre is a 3-minute walk from the Sheldonian Theatre and 11 minutes’ walk from Oxford railway station.

Understated rooms with original period details offer Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities, plus shared or en suite bathrooms.

My room was very comfortable and had everything I needed – fast broadband, a satellite TV and a well stocked tea tray. This all proved to be ideal. Being so centrally located just behind the High Street, I could drop off any shopping or simply take short breaks between fighting the Christmas crowds. I actually felt as if I had my own house bang in the centre of Oxford and it was brilliant!

This is a very old house in the centre of a very old town, but I prefer ‘quaint and friendly’ to ‘spartan and executive’ (and miles away!). The price of a room in the Tower Hotel seems entirely reasonable to me, especially considering the location. I reckon the rooms could all do with a lick of paint, but I’ve paid much more for a similar, very dingy room at the Randolph.

Depending on the outcome of the aforementioned interview, I hope to be making many more visits to the Tower to soak up that authentic ‘Oxford’ atmosphere.

The Tower House is in the city center and in easy reach of shops slights and bars.
Only a short walk from the train station staff were helpful and room was comfortable and breakfast was lovely
Would stay at the tower house again.
