Hotel is in an excellent location to visit most of the historic sights in the city. It is about 200 m from the open top bus stop and a leisurely 20 minutes walk from the Opera House. Staff at the hotel were helpful and friendly and are happy to provide any information needed.
Although it is claimed to be the oldest hotel in Vienna it is exceptionally clean and in good condition and furnished in line with its age to add to its charm. Breakfast could not be faulted with a good variety to suit all tastes. Lunch and dinner did not offer a big variety of choices but was well prepared.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a short stay in the city and we hope to return, perhaps to see the Christmas Market.
Hotel is well placed, less than 15 easy walk to St. Stephens square. Whilst our room was rather plain( others were more luxurious) it was comfortable enough.
Staff very pleasant and helpful, especially Mazar in the comfortable non smoking bar who looked after us during our stay. Buffet breakfast had a good range of hot and cold food, again staff very pleasant.
Vienna is quite an expensive place but our stay was excellent. Christmas markets were great, especially at Rathaus.
There is a lovely old town with lots of shops and bars and a castle at the top of the hill. There were two Christmas markets both with ice rinks, entertainment on two stages and lots of stalls selling Christmas fare and even more selling food and drinks, a lot cheaper than Vienna, I would really recommend this trip if you enjoy the Christmas markets. You can also go to lots of other great places from the coach station, Budapest, Prague and some German cities if you are in Vienna for more than a weekend.
If I come back to Vienna I would certainly stay at Hotel Stefanie and will be recommending it to all my friends.
This splendid hotel was our base for visiting the city’s Christmas markets. The hotel maintains extremely high standards and the staff are first rate. It is a very traditional hotel but has a warm and cosy feel about it.
Rooms, breakfast and location could not be faulted and the lively barman kept us amused. We were totally satisfied with our stay at Hotel Stephanie.

Vienna’s one and only wine themed hotel is looking forward to hosting all wine lovers as well as lovers of quality and small, special hotels.
All our 39 rooms and the suite are dedicated to Austrian premium winemakers and are featuring clear and state of the art design and function, enhanced with a lot of love for the details and some quirky things, too.
We stayed at Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design in December during a busy Christmas market weekend when our regular hotel of choice was booked. Definitely a find! We booked an upgraded room, and it was among the largest European hotel rooms I’ve ever encountered. Tall ceilings and plenty of space to put everything. The room was modern and clean.
The theme here is wine, and all the rooms are named for wine makers and ours was even stocked with some of this wine, which sadly we did not have time to enjoy. We did have time to have a glass at the hotel bar, and the bartender was very knowledgable about wine and eager to explain the local vintages. The rest of the staff were also very friendly and helpful.
Be forewarned that the location is bit off the beaten path, in a good way. It’s very well situated for walking around the quieter streets of the 7th and 8th district, which are filled with smaller shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
The hotel is placed in a lovely area of boutique shops in both directions and lovely restaurants. We were in walking distance to everything, Palace, Rathaus, Christmas Markets.
There are also a few grocery shops nearby. Would definitely rate this hotel a 4 star and also highly recommend trying their local wine
It’s a short walk to the Ubahn, which goes directly into the center. Walking into the center takes about 25 mins. The hotel itself is very quiet.
Near all amenities and only a 5 minute walk from the main Christmas Market. Lovely room with very large comfortable bed, separate shower and WC. Good supply of hair and shower gels. Quiet room and very clean.
The only downside was the lack of Tea /Coffee making facilities. Good range of Continental breakfast and you could also get a full English. The staff were extremely nice and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The hotel is a great location 5 mins to the underground tram and bus stop as well as the Christmas markets. To walk into the centre takes 10-15 mins. We had a deluxe double room which was a good size and very comfortable.
Great location really near the Rathaus which was perfect for our trips to the Christmas market.
It was within walking distance of many others too so is a perfect spot if you are going for the markets. 24 hour wine bar was a definite plus too.

3. Hotel Josefshof am Rathaus 4* – Hotels Near Vienna Christmas Markets

Combining the charm of historic Vienna with today’s contemporary lifestyle, the 4-star Hotel Josefshof am Rathaus is located in a quiet side street in the charming Josefstadt district, just a few steps away from famous sights like Vienna City Hall, the Museums Quarter and the Mariahilferstraße Shopping street.

A rich breakfast buffet is available daily from 07:00 to 12:00 and includes a wide range of coffee and tea specialities, homemade cakes, breads as well as fresh fruits and juices.
In an art deco building, this refined, contemporary hotel is a 10-minute walk from the Museumsquartier cultural area and a 15-minute walk from both Hofburg Palace and the Spanish Riding School, home of the Lipizzaner stallions.
The polished rooms provide warm, modern decor, free Wi-FI, flat-screen TVs and minibars. They also offer tea and coffee making facilities. Upgraded rooms add separate living areas.
Amenities include a 24-hour cocktail bar offering snacks, and breakfast buffet is available for a fee.
The room had a number of amenities to use, however was a lot smaller (Standard Room (Wiener Klassik)) than it looked like in the pictures (recommend looking at the floor plan/size guide) before booking. In addition, the walls of the rooms are very very thin, you can hear people in 3-4 rooms down the hall.
Though the major benefit of this hotel was the close proximity to the Rathaus city hall (6-7 minute walk from the hotel), which is arguably one of the best Christmas markets in Vienna.
A tram stop is located 2 minutes walk from the hotel and the train station – Volkstheater is about 7-8 minute walk (the train station nearby Rathaus doesn’t take you to many of the main city attractions).
Additionally, the hotel has a nicely secluded room in the lobby (first-come-first serve) that allows guests to relax and have a drink with each other.
The hotel was lovely and located in an excellent location. I was there to visit the Christmas markets, and the hotel was quite close to the biggest one in Rathaus park.
The room I stayed in was large and very pretty, also the bathroom was gorgeous and very modern with artwork on the door which I really liked. The staff was also very helpful and very nice.
. The location of the hotel was ideal, close to one of the main Christmas markets at Rathaus and also very close to the nearest U Bahn station, making it easy to get around the centre of Vienna. The hotel is tucked down a quiet street but there are plenty of facilities close by.
The room was fairly standard, a fridge with complimentary water. Decent sized safe. The hotel bar is small but very nice for a night cap. All the hotel staff were very helpful during our stay.
I found the Josefshof due to a combination of high ratings, value and proximity to the main Christmas market near the Rathaus. The location was ideal, near the Volkstheater underground stop to easily get to other markets at St Stephan’s, Karlsplatz and Schönbrunn Palace.
It was also up a side street off the main thoroughfare, so a quiet location with on site parking for those who are driving into Vienna. The room was very comfortable, quiet, had a walk in shower, plenty of storage and the beds ensured a great night sleep.
Ann Christian at the front desk helped us map all the markets and the theme of each one to plan our visits. The breakfast included with the room rate was very good. With all types of coffees, breads, eggs, meats, cheeses, fresh yogurt and orange juice…would definitely come back.
