We booked this hotel with friends and went to Winchester to enjoy the celebrated Christmas market by the Cathedral. The hotel was perfectly placed for strolling around the City centre and their private car park was ideal for our vehicle – and our peace of mind!

The hotel is an old and quirky building but is comfortable and easy to relax in. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, with good food and good choices; very important for us as we try to eat low fat meals.

It is right in the City Centre and perfect for the annual Christmas Market and shops. The secure on-site parking is an added bonus even though this is subject to availability.

Very clean and warm, we had a garden room which had a lovely view of the garden.

Once again we stayed at the Winchester Royal Hotel whilst visiting the Christmas Market.

The hotel was lovely with wonderful Christmas decorations. Our meals were excellent and the room was very comfortable. The staff as usual were excellent and provided fabulous service.

Great location. Excellent for visiting the shops and Christmas market. Good sized Room. Pillows too hard but otherwise room very comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly. Food adequate but perhaps not the hotel’s strongest suit.

The hotel is centrally located in Winchester, and ideally located for shops, Winchester Cathedral and this time of year the Christmas Market.
The hotel is warm well laid out and welcoming with excellent staff where nothing is too much trouble. Check in and out was fast and efficient.

The rooms (we had a ground floor overlooking the garden) were very clean spacious great hot shower, with all the usual amenities, tea coffee, water, ironing board, hair dryer, soaps and shampoos free Wi-Fi etc.

The breakfast (served in the garden Restaurant nice setting) offered a good selection of food and should cater for all, whether you want a light Continental, to a full English.

This was just a one night stay for us so we did not eat in the hotel during the evening, but I am sure the food would be excellent.

There is a nice bar area and lounge to sit relax with a drink and unwind after (in my case) a days shopping.

2. Esme’s 3* – Hotels Close to Winchester Christmas Market

Offering free WiFi, Esme’s offers accommodation in Winchester, within walking distance from Wolvesey Castle and 550 m from the Winchester Cathedral.

The room comes with a flat-screen TV<,a shower room and a hair dryer.

Numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs can be reached in walking distance.

King Alfred’s statue, The Westgate, Winchester Museum and The Round Table in the Great Hall can all be reached in a short walk.

Highly recommended for charm, comfort, pleasant host, excellent shower, super location, very easy to walk to all of Winchester’s highlights.

Excellent location right in the centre of Winchester. ESME made us feel very welcome. Lots of nice touches and a comfortable bed.

Stayed here overnight for a visit to the Christmas market.

Spotlessly clean, top quality and really comfortable accommodation, great central location, and Esme is lovely and very helpful – let us use the parking permit into the afternoon of our day of departure as the next guests didn’t need it.

The location of the property is ideal for a visit to Winchester. Just a few minutes walk and you are right in the centre of town. We stayed one night to visit the Christmas market and to go for dinner and drinks.

Esme is a fantastic host, welcoming us warmly into her home and showing us around her beautiful guest room. It was comfortable and clean throughout. Will definitely stay again!

It was our first stay at a Hotel Du Vin as we wanted to visit Winchester with their Christmas market. We stayed for 3 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast package. The reception staff were excellent and we were shown to our superior double room which was on the top floor.

The room was a very good size however at night the area near the wardrobe was so dark you could not see what clothes you were getting out so we suggested that a light was put into the wardrobe to help guests. The evening service in the restaurant was very good.

I stayed here with a girlfriend for one night as a base to visit the Winchester Christmas Market and it turned out to be an excellent choice.

The hotel is perfectly situated very close to the centre of town and Cathedral.

The room was nicely decorated with ample amenities and thankfully fresh milk in the mini bar and a proper coffee maker.
The bed was crisp and comfy and the bathroom large with a huge shower head over the bath and nice toiletries and bathrobes.

We had a room overlooking the courtyard which had a lovely view and was very quiet.

We went to Winchester to visit their famous Christmas market, rated among the top ten Christmas Markets in Europe, and stayed at the Hotel du Vin. Like all the other H du Vs in which we’ve stayed, this one is in an interesting period building.

Our room, though on the small side, was beautifully furnished and had a smart bathroom. The staff were charming and the food was excellent, the breakfast exceptionally so.

The hotel has its own car park also. It is centrally placed, and convenient for looking around the wonderful medieval city with so many things to see. There are lots of good pubs as well.
