We stayed at The Grand hotel – York in December and our room was beautiful, very spacious and meticously presented and it felt like small apartment minus a kitchen. A warm welcomed on arrival at the door, Jordy was great, nothing was too much trouble. We loved it so much we stayed on an extra night.
December was a great time to visit york with the night time Christmas market and a visit to Aunt Betty’s cafe. The hotel and the staff deserve the 5 star rating.
the room was just delightful, the double bathroom perfect whilst we were getting ready and I don’t think I’ve ever slept in a bed so huge. One bottle of still and one bottle of sparkling water complimentary with all other minibar drinks chargeable. We also had a tea and coffee tray.
The Classic room was twice the size of the standard rooms in any other hotel I’d stayed at and appointed as a luxury room.
Very nice indeed. The TV was a 47” flat screen HD variety and a bottle of champagne was waiting for us, chilled….nice touch! Glad I mentioned it was a birthday treat!
The bathroom and toilet were 2 separate rooms (this in a Classic!) and were very nicely done. Heated floors, heated mirrors, spotlessly clean…perfect!
The bed was super comfy and huge! The room also has a small table and 2 chairs for in-room dining.
Small touches are what made this place feel special, attention to detail, like built in nightlights, lights in the fitted wardrobes, reading lamps…the small things.
Check in was delightful in a separate reception room where we were checked in and advised to return later when the room would be ready.
We headed into York to the Christmas markets and had a lovely time.

This hotel is right in the center of the action in York, a stone’s throw from the Minster and a lovely walk to any of the central tourist attractions (we walked to the York Walls, Christmas market, Jorvik Viking Centre, and Shambles). The price you pay is likely some noise, either from the street, the Minster bells (Tuesday when we were there is when the bell practice happens, over several hours stretching to 9 pm or so), or the bar downstairs.
But on the plus side, the bar serves yummy desserts, food (that we didn’t try) and drinks (that we did) and is open 24 hours for hotel guests! You can walk easily to plenty of coffee shops for breakfast as we did, or get breakfast at the hotel.
The rooms are older, but well equipped and comfortable with seating, adjustable heating (and a freestanding fan in the closet), and views of the Minster. Cost is reasonable and value is good.
Warm, comfortable hotel with professional polite staff, good food excellent value, spacious room which was clean, well furnished and overlooked York Minster. Close to the city centre. Loved our Christmas visit especially the street Christmas market.
The twin room was huge with everything available. Wi-fi was fast and of course, free. Staff were very welcoming.
The Christmas market at York was nothing to write home about but the Shambles were gorgeous and only a couple of minutes walk away. It’s also close to Betty’s for afternoon tea which is a bit of an institution. Mumbai Lounge in Fossgate is also worthy of a mention.
The hotel is a quick walk from the station; doesn’t take long at all.

Just returned from a 2 night Christmas market stay. The hotel is in a great location, Within a 15 minute walk to the Shambles and 5-10 minute walk to town.
We stayed at The Queens Hotel as a family, to visit the Christmas market and do some shopping.
The hotel is warm and comfortable and our rooms were spacious and overlooking the river. The staff could not have been more helpful, and the breakfast plentiful and tasty. It is in a perfect location and I would happily return and recommend this hotel.
We visited York for the Christmas Market. The Queens hotel is in an ideal location. Just a short walk to all the main attractions. Our room overlooked the river. For a standard room, ( the only ones they had available) it was surprisingly spacious.
Stayed for 1 night with my friend for the Christmas markets, the position was perfect for all Yorks attractions & just a few minutes walk over the bridge to the shops. Could not fault this hotel, the room was large, clean and very quiet, we asked for third floor and never heard a noise all night.
Very friendly reception staff, would definitely stay here again.
