he hotel is a renovated Post Office building, the hallways were original, super wide and ran the entire length of the building, a full block long! We loved it. The lobby was eclectic, we made sure we were there at 5PM every night to take advantage of the free happy hour! Kudos to Melvin our bartender, he kept us happy every night we saw him!
In addition, the hotel is right next door to the American Portrait Gallery, there was a Christmas Market happening right across the street, the mall and museums were all within walking distance, and there were plenty of wonderful restaurants in the area to choose from.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice luxurious place to stay while enjoying a tour of the DC area. Also great for business!!! All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and cheery, we have no complaints!!
The hallways are impressive with really high arched ceilings, lots of old style plaster work and really nice runners over the marble floors.

Great location for tourism though on Christmas Day we didn’t need that: across the street from Nat’l Portrait Gallery, a block from Cap. One Center, a block and a half from Ford’s Theater.
Everything we expected, and interesting, attractive decor.
We had a room on the tenth floor with a view of the Christmas Market on Seventh Street, right downtown. We walked to the White House and the Christmas tree.
The room was beautifully designed, the bed quite comfortable and the view of the city was delightful. The hotel restaurant is stunning although I only enjoyed the ‘grab and go breakfast’ due to time constraints. The location is perfect for exploring Penn Quarter, 14th Street, the Mall, museums etc. It is near multiple metro stops and is convenient should you choose not to have a car.
I considered staying at other well known branded hotels and could not be happier with my decision to stay here.
The hotel is a historical property in the Penn Quarter, which has been beautifully renovated. It is very close to major DC attractions (National Mall, White House, Capital One Arena) and very close to Metro stations (Gallery Place/Metro Center).
The rooms are very tastefully decorated, with high quality furnishings. The cleanliness of the room as well as the hotel were to the highest standards.
But the Riggs hotel team deserves a special recognition – front desk, Cafe Riggs team, housekeeping – they all made us feel welcome and did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
And they did it in a very warm and genuine way. And so we felt sad, when we had to leave, however were glad that we have found a new home in Washington DC.
