The Intercontinental Sofia is just a very short walk from Kliment Ohridski metro station, 11 stops from the airport and straight into the lap of luxury. Excellent hotel, definitely the 5 stars it deserves.
Checkin was quick and allocated room on the 7th floor which faced the mountain rather than the superb St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral but the view was still very nice. Screens and sanitizer were in place to protect you and the staff and also make you feel safe. Upgraded to a suite which was wonderful and great to have all the extra space. The décor was stylish and modern yet relaxing. The outside balcony was great to enjoy the sun in the morning or the evening light and have a drink or too before heading out.
Everything was luxurious , clean and well appointed. Separate seating area with coffee machine and empty minibar ( filled on request) The bed was unbelievably comfortable , crisp sheets and perfect duvet for the best night’s sleep. Desk area and plenty of charging points for your devices. I loved the electronic remote control drapes, what fun opening & closing them. The blackout blinds worked a treat. Wifi worked well and was complimentary.
The bathroom was equipped with lovely L’Occitane products, super soft robes and plenty of towels, everything to keep you clean and look after yourself. The shower was easy to use and easy to control the temperature too.
Breakfast in the restaurant was table service due to covid and it was excellent, the full breakfast was perfectly cooked and presented well, served with piping hot coffee ( or tea) A great start to the day. Everything was delicious. Sadly the exec lounge was closed due to covid too so could not experience it.
Service from everybody was exemplary, very good English spoken, sadly I have no Bulgarian… happy to help with maps, directions or finding out if the cable car was running or not ! Nothing was too much trouble and all with a smile, how it should be. On checkout , the bill was correct and no problem storing the bags until the flight later in the evening . A very enjoyable stay in a classy and modern hotel.
The location is very central and walking distance to everything so you do not need to use the metro too much. A super luxurious hotel worth your patronage if you are in Sofia.

Staff in hotel were very attentive to your needs and after a quick call a maintenance team was despatched to resolve any problems. Room was cleaned daily with towels replaced.
We recommend Philip, who assisted with any problems we had, advice and guidance for places to visit, as well as other interesting information. Others were equally helpful.
Rooms are spacious, we stayed in two bedroom, two bathroom, lounge, kitchen, diner apartment. Wide balcony, which caught the sun afternoon onwards. Apartments the other side of the pool (with two waterslides) had the sun in the morning.
Three restaurants, we were self catering, but did try “Taste”, which was very good food, drink and service.
Try the local wine which is very good and a fraction of the price that you pay at home.
Elvis comes once a week to sing at the pool bar for an hour or so. He is very good! Ah ha ha…
Happy hour 4-5 p.m. with local cocktails at 2 for 1.
Good animation team, with the usual daily exercise to the summer anthem. Very entertaining.
Three pools – one quiet, the other two (one for small children) in the main hotel area between the U-shaped buiding. Get up early if you want a bed as the usual towel brigade are out putting down their claim to the pool side beds at silly hours in the middle of the night – which we witnessed as we were coming home late one night – very amusing.
If you cannot find a bed, don’t get stressed, the staff are very good at bringing you some along from the “store” – all you need to do is ask.
Outside gym near the pool, indoor gym in partner hotel across the road.
Table tennis tables under cover.
Two water slides, one fast, one more sedate.

Try out:
– Sveti Vlas Marina, that has a number of restaurants of all different types.
– Nessebar Old Town, wide variety of restaurants and shops (lots of leather), cobbled streets, so don’t where your stilettos.
– Khans Tent – good cheap five course meal with drink (bottle of wine or two beers) PLUS an hours’ worth of cabaret and live band.
