Pensiune Citadela Sighisoara România (Review & Photos)

Sighisoara is one of the best cities to be visited in Romani and has a specific charm due to its history, magical street and being one of the oldest medieval city in the Europe. I have visited to many Sighisoara, included last year as well. Everytime I want to try something new in term of hotels in Sighisoara and these year I decided to stay as well inside  the Citadella and book the Citadela Sighisoara Guest House.

We have 2 option regarding where to stay in Sighisoara:

  1. Outside the Citadel – if you are planning to come by car and if you have as well many luggages this is the best option for you; the streets are very narrow and parking spaces are scarce and it would be difficult to park your car. Having too many or too heavy luggages will mean caring it on a stone pavements and it’s not a easy job. So better book a hotel in Sighisoara outside the Citadella.
  2. Inside the Citadel – if you want to feel the real atmosphere of the medieval time, you have to stay in a hotel which is located inside the Citadel of Sighisoara. Hotels are limited and the good one’s get fully booked in high season quite fast. You have to know that the rooms are smaller compared with a hotel located out the Citadel.

Check in @ Pensiune Citadela Sighisoara

We arrived late in Sighisoara and we were coming by car from Bucharest and after we rented our car from Hertz and visited on the way Brasov and Peles Castle (only outside because it was Monday and it was closed) our arrival time was around 9pm. The reception is not 24h so better to communicate with the owner of the place regarding your arrival time.  We had  to call the landlord and explain to us where she left the keys’ that was a easy task. Once inside we took our room keys and headed to our rooms. The stairs are not that narrow or abrupt as our previous guest complained. It wasn’t difficult either to climb it with our luggages.

LocationPensiune Citadela Sighisoara

Situated within the UNESCO-listed Mediaeval citadel of Sighisoara, Pensiune Citadela offers functionally furnished rooms with free Wi-Fi and TV sets.

Pensiune Citadela is next to the Clock Tower and the History Museum. The Weapon Museum, which is close to Vlad Tepes’ birthplace, is 100 m away. Târgu Mureş International Airport is a 60-minute drive away. It s right in the heart of the Sighisoara and close to everything you want to visit.

The pension is around 20 minutes walk from the train station and a decent grocery store is 5 – 10 minutes walk away.

Yes, the staircase was very narrow and it was a little difficult to go up the stairs with a large suitcase, and also parking was not the easiest thing given the steep and narrow cobbled street but this is an old medieval town and we were very lucky to be in the heart of it!

Me and my wife  stayed in a triple room at Citadela Sighisoara (one double bed and small addition bed in the corner of the room) while my friend stayed in the green room with one big double bed. The room was big enough and spacious for us to walk around and to put our staff. Having a low ceiling and being close to the bed it was a bit difficult for one person to go into the bed on this side.

Bedsheet were not 100% clean – maybe more focus on cleaning would make them to be fit for a hotel even if it’s a 2* hotel in Sighisoara.  Room had an old TV but since we did not spend too much time in the room we did not open it.

The bathroom has a shower, power outlet at 220 volts, extending makeup mirror and a ceiling fan. The bathroom was also fine, and I had no problems with the drain overflowing or anything of that sort. In fact it was clean and well appointed.

The breakfast, while unremarkable, was simple and delicious. Price of only the omelette is 6 let ( not even 2$) and the coffee you have to pay extra and not included in the breakfast price. For a total of 10 LEI (3$) it’s a bad deal but next time I would probably prefer to eat outside for a more consistent breakfast and a very good coffee.

Lounge @ Citadela Sighisoara

The highlight of these hotel in Sighisoara is the amazing lounge; with antique furniture and excellent design. We did quite some nice couple photos in there.

Price & Booking @ Citadela Sighisoara

One double room starts with the price of 24 Euro per night – breakfast is not included in the price. Our triple room price is 30 Euro per night. It’s more than a decent price for a hotel inside the Citadel of Sighisoara and the services are quite OK. The hotel is no 1 on Tripadvisor in terms of reviews as well.

You can book online  Citadela Sighisoara on Booking.com or HotelsCombined.com for the best prices & real time availability.
