1. Cascades Lakefront Motel 5* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

I liked that they upgraded us from a studio to a family unit because of our dogs at no extra charge. Plenty of space and just an awesome first time in Taupo.

We had an upstairs room with spa bath and a small lake view of the hot water beach. Bed was very comfortable and room very clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We were well informed before hand via email of what was available in the area particularly for dog owners and loved that our dog could stay with us (although we didn’t bring her this time).

Cascades is close to the lake walkway and a short walk to the Two Mile Bay sailing club where we ate pizza listening to great musicians, also dog friendly. We’ll stay again next time we’re in Taupo.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The motel is right by the lake and we enjoyed the view and walks. There is a cafe & bar nearby which is super dog friendly.

We were travelling with our dog, so this was a great find – a pet friendly motel. We let them know in advance that we would have our dog with us and they were able to send us their one-pager that had sensible regulations for someone staying with a dog. It was only $20 extra to have the dog stay with us. Our dog sleeps in a crate anyway, so the room they gave us, which had a kitchenette area was perfect.

The location of the motel is excellent, right on the lakefront so it was a lovely walk to take in the evening and in the morning. The bed was comfy, we slept really well and the room was very clean.

The shower had great water pressure and the kitchenette was well set up.

The owners/managers were so friendly and accommodating. We will certainly try and stay here again next time we pass through Taupo.

2. U Boutique Hotel 3* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

U Boutique Hotel offers stylish boutique accommodation with free WiFi. Gourmet continental breakfast is available in the mornings. Set in the heart of Wellington, the property is 5 minutes’ walk from the waterfront.

The restaurants, bars, theatres and nightlife of Courtenay Place are just a 5-minute walk away. The Interislander Ferry terminal is only 3 km away and it is 2 km to Wellington Railway Station.

Each room at U Boutique Hotel includes a 32-inch flat-screen TV, a work desk and heating. There is one room with an outdoor terrace and hot tub. Shared laundry facilities are available.

A 5-minute walk from the shops and bars of Cuba Street, this informal, family-run hotel set in 2 quirky buildings in a residential area is an 11-minute walk from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and 2 km from Wellington Railway Station.

Unfussy rooms (no air-conditioning) come with Wi-Fi access and flat-screen TVs, plus tea and coffeemaking facilities. Most have private or en suite bathrooms; some share facilities. Studios add kitchenettes and/or decks, and 1 has a hot tub.

Amenities include a casual cafe and guest laundry facilities. Breakfast and parking are available for a surcharge.

We booked a pet friendly room with our dog and it was spacious and comfortable. We needed to be close to the ferry and the room was in the city centre within walking distance of cafes and restaurants with a parking space also.

The decor was funky and original.

The staff were super helpful and accommodating.

They provided a dog bed, dog treats and a food bowl for us to use. Zippy loved his stay.

For the humans we were treated to lovely coffee, a welcome biscuit and a shower bomb.

The beds were very comfy and the room was warm and welcoming.

We’re definitely putting U boutique hotel on our list of places to stay next time we’re in Wellington.

Management were really accommodating about having our dog with us, nothing was an issue. We were able to take him for a walk up around the War Memorial where there was plenty of grassed area for him to stretch his legs.

The location of the hotel is excellent – a short 5 min walk into town where there are a a large number of bars and restaurants. The rooms were spacious and clean and the customer service exceptional.

We had an excellent experience and highly recommend U Boutique Hotel.

Nice apartment and having the dog stay was great. Good location , clean and everything was was as advertised. Easy check in and communication was good throughout. We would stay again if we head to Wellington.

Our little Maltese was so happy with the lovely big pet friendly room at U Boutique Hotel. I think there is only one pet friendly room, so it might pay to book early.

The owners are super nice people and my wife and I enjoyed our stay very much.

The hotel is very central and handy to most things.

The beds are so comfy, there is a fully equipped kitchen and the shower is great.
Air con was warm and quiet, we all slept so well.

If you are looking for a quality, central Wellington Hotel, U Boutique certainly ticks all the boxes.

3. Mt Albert Motor Lodge 3* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Located in Auckland, within 6 km of Auckland Town Hall and 7 km of SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre, Mt Albert Motor Lodge provides accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool and free WiFi throughout the property as well as free private parking for guests who drive. Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a barbecue. Guests can enjoy city views.

At the motel every room comes with a seating area, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a kitchenette, a dining area and a private bathroom with a hairdryer, a shower and free toiletries.

Convenient location and with a yummy cafe on site. Dog friendly and room has everything you need.

We were grateful that we could bring our dog so the location for walking him was great. Handy to the motorways and shops.

Lovely place, easy to get to everything, facilities was great, cafe on site, owners were so lovely and helpful, everything was really spotless and comfortable, and if you have dogs perfect place to have them, and they are so welcomed.

Modern, spacious and clean with excellent firm bed and well-appointed kitchenette. Shower pressure wasn’t great, but okay nonetheless. Pet-friendly too. Would definitely stay again.

4. Three Gables B&B 3* – Pet Friendly Accommodation  New Zealand

At the guest house, each room has a desk, a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, bed linen, towels and a patio with a garden view. Guest rooms will provide guests with a wardrobe and a kettle.

Continental and buffet breakfast options are available daily at Three Gables B&B.

Very relaxing and welcoming, lovely hosts, welcomed our trained dog as well, great walking in the Orchard, 5 mins from Restaurants etc, can’t wait to go back!

The property was beautiful. Plenty of space for the dog and kid to run around.

Quite and peaceful. Sue and her partner were accommodating and at the same time they gave us plenty of privacy.

Central Square Hotel offers centrally located apartments with satellite TV and a DVD player. Guests enjoy a variety of cafés, shops and restaurants in The Square directly opposite the property.

All air-conditioned apartments feature a kitchenette with a microwave, a refrigerator and a dishwasher.

I appreciated that I was able to take little dog with me.

Our dog friendly room was on the 2nd floor which meant going down in the lift and walking the dog for her call of nature in the street. No grassy area for her around the block of suites to do her business.

I would have liked a view over the square but understand that only some apartments are kept for people with their pets.

6. Fino Hotel & Suites 4* – Dog Friendly Hotels New Zealand

A true home away from home experience. Exceptional location with great entertainment and restaurants on our doorstep. Fabulous to travel with our little poodle dog and go on interesting riverside walks.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The staff were very welcoming and always had a smile on their face.

The room was very clean and comfortable, for the price we were expecting something a lot less. We loved the fact we could have our dog stay with us and was treated like a guest.

We had the pleasure of being the first dog owners to stay in the Fino in Christchurch recently. The welcome from the manager and staff was warm, and the accommodation was top notch.

Our friends who were visiting from Ireland were captivated by the quality of the suite.

Our dog relished the dog treats and complimentary toy. It meant so much to us to be able to bring our older dog with us on the trip and not to have the stress of boarding him in kennels.

The information pack was very helpful and the central location of the Fino (and on-site parking) contributed greatly to our visit. We would highly recommend the Fino to everyone and particularly to others traveling with their pet.

Those who are pet-free can be reassured that there are dedicated pet friendly suites & that other rooms are not impacted by canine guests.

7. Te Wanaka Lodge 4* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Super friendly and helpful owners. Great location. Comfy room. And dog friendly!

The service was friendly. the room was warm and smelled nice. It was handy to everything and we walked to dinner.

It was lovely to travel with our dogs so thanks for allowing them to stay with us.

! It was a very well presented lodge with very warm rooms, lovely home cooked breakfasts and a spa pool for the cold nights where we could enjoy a glass of wine. It was also in a prime location with 3 minutes walking distance to the main streets of Wanaka. To top it all off the staff were beyond lovely, Wayne went out of his way to make us feel right at home.

We would highly recommend Te Wanaka Lodge, it made our holiday so special! Thanks!

8. Abba Court Motel 4* – Pet Friendly Motels NZ

The property is within a 5-minute walk of central Queenstown and features a BBQ area with outdoor seating. Abba Court Motel Queenstown is 1 km from Lake Wakatipu, and 5 minutes’ drive from the Queenstown Gardens. Queenstown International Airport is a 15-minute drive away.

Kitchen facilities with a stove, microwave and refrigerator are standard in all apartments.

Each heated apartment has a bathroom with a hairdryer and guest toiletries. Some apartments also have mountain views. All rooms have large Smart TV’s with Netflix and access to movies.

A 2-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, this low-key, unassuming motel is 8 km from the Ben Lomond mountain and 15 km from the tranquil Lake Hayes.

The unpretentious studios and 1- to 2-bedroom apartments with simple furnishings offer free Wi-Fi, TVs, full kitchens and living areas with sofa beds.

Amenities include a playground and complimentary parking.

Walking distance from the centre I had the pleasure of staying here for several weeks in a balcony 1 bedroom unit which was well appointed including a kitchenette which included a microwave / cooking facilities and a full sized fridge leaving me wanting for nothing .
Pots and pans cutlery plates etc were all provided .

Bedroom was spacious and well appointed .
Groceries can be bought at two supermarkets directly across the street.

The fact that this motel is dog friendly was such a surprise and suited us perfectly.

The owner being a dog owner himself is indeed very understanding as regards guests with their pets.

The apartment was clean, warm and comfortable and the owner, so friendly and helpful. Our little dog Honey was made very welcome too.

The location is so convenient, just a 5 minute walk into central Queenstown and with a supermarket and cafe just across the road.

We will certainly stay here every time we come to Queenstown. Thank you for a fabulous stay
Parking was available onsite right next to the units.

A small garden with play facilities is available for kids under supervision and also provides a place for pets to stretch their legs.

Great stay here, super friendly hosts. It was a great location, minutes walk to town, the lake and gondola. Genuinely pet friendly too, really nice to be able to have our dog stay with us on holiday and not have to have her sleep in the car.

Bree (our dog) had lots of cuddles, which she loves. We had a one bedroom unit which was very clean and had everything we needed. Highly recommend it.

9. Bella Vista Motel Dunedin 4* – Pet Friendly Motels New Zealand

Bella Vista Dunedin provides accommodation a 10-minute walk from the city, the University of Otago and three blocks from the Botanical Gardens. It provides free gigabit WiFi access and free off-street parking.

All sound-proofed units have a private bathroom and a kitchen or kitchenette equipped with a tea/coffee-making facilities. A Smart TV is available in every room.

Facilities at the Bella Vista Dunedin include a guest laundry and dry cleaning service. Continental breakfast items can be delivered to your room each evening. All rooms include satellite TV.

The room is very clean and tidy. Easy parking is a bonus in Dunedin. It is very nice to be able to stay with pets. My dog was very comfortable in his dog bed on the floor which I brought from home. There is a grass area behind the motel and there’s also a park across the street. For those who don’t have dogs with them, I have stayed at this motel before I got a dog.

It was very comfortable and there was no pet odor or hair. Perhaps they have a separate room for people with dogs. I wish there were more dog-friendly motels like this one in New Zealand.

We received a warm welcome. Our little dog was welcomed as well. The room was a little bit small, but immaculately clean and very comfortable and quiet. Would definitely stay there again!!

Very tidy, clean, upmarket affordable accommodation if you’re planning a trip to Dunedin. The bonus for us was that we could take our fur babies with us and they were welcome to stay as well.

Very central to parks, the city center and other popular amenities. Please stay here next time. You will not be disappointed.

10. Podium Lodge 3* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Located in a rural setting, Podium Lodge, a pet friendly accommodation Hamilton offers accommodation 2 minutes’ drive from Cambridge. Free WiFi is featured throughout the property.

Each well appointed room has a flat-screen TV. Certain units include a seating area where you can relax. You will find a kettle in the room. Rooms have a private bathroom.

Having a safe dog friendly place with awesome dog run space.

Quiet location slightly out of town. Tidy and modern rooms with an Olympic theme. Dog friendly and plenty of parking.

The entry was easily accessible, the kitchen at a great height, as well as the bed. The bathroom was a wet room with fold down shower chair, and handrails. Property also allowed our dog which was great.

We booked into Podium Lodge initially for two nights, We had a large family group of 3 x couples, a pet dog & parents in a campervan.

They even left flowers & mandarins in our rooms – ontop of this the actual accommodation was fantastic with lovely clean, quiet rooms & very comfortable beds.

All the staff were exceptional to deal with – even down to the cleaners who were awesome & took a personal interest in our welfare. We would all highly recommend the Podium Lodge as the only place to stay in Cambridge.

11. Entabeni 4* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Situated in Raglan in the Waikato region, Entabeni has a patio and garden views. The accommodation is 45 km from Hamilton, and guests benefit from complimentary WiFi and private parking available on site.

The bed and breakfast features a flat-screen TV. Towels and bed linen are available.

A continental breakfast is available each morning at the bed and breakfast.

Entabeni offers a terrace. Guests at the accommodation can enjoy hiking and canoeing nearby, or make the most of the garden.

Very cozy room with cool African vibe. Loved we could have our dog with us. The best muffin room delivery!

The owners were the perfect match of available and friendly but not intrusive.

Lovely little touches like fresh juice, ample milk and plunger coffee and warm fresh muffins each morning. Our pet was welcomed and great walking tracks nearby-perfect dog place!

Breakfast was lovely. Robyn catered for my gluten intolerence with GF bread & delicious freshly made gluten free muffins which were a treat. Good continental breakfast provisions. Our dog was happy here. Unfenced but once she’d had a sniff around she was happy to stay close to the room or lie in shady spot and watch the world go by.

Loved the fact that she could go inside with us. Location has a slight rural feel and is fine if happy to drive to beach etc, (only 5 or 10 mins) which to us wasn’t a hassle.

Walk to town about 15 mins which we did quite easily leaving dog tied up in a shady spot at the house. Lovely quiet street meant it was peaceful sitting out on small deck in morning with breakfast or in the evening.

Overall we enjoyed our weekend break very much. Robyn was a lovely host and available should we need her without at all intruding on our privacy, basically we were left alone unless we wanted assistance. Perfect hosting.

12. Chelsea Park Motor Lodge 4* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Chelsea Park Motor Lodge offers luxuriously appointed rooms with free unlimited Wi-Fi, just 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Nelson. All rooms have a kitchenette and a flat-screen TV with 50 satellite channels.

Chelsea Park’s spacious rooms include a microwave, satellite TV and a DVD player. Each room has a bathroom with a hairdryer and free toiletries. Some rooms boast a patio or private balcony.

This low-key motel in the city centre is an 8-minute walk from the 19th-century Christ Church Cathedral and 9 minutes on foot from Nelson Provincial Museum.

Modern studios provide free Wi-Fi, as well as sitting areas and kitchenettes. All have terraces or balconies, while 1- and 2-bedroom suites add living/dining rooms. Some quarters include whirlpool baths.

A BBQ area and laundry service are available.

We arrived after a day motorbiking, opened the door to a clean, stylish unit with a cosy outdoor patio bathed in the afternoon sun. I was so pleased to see it was pet friendly and met a couple of dog guests.

Will definitely use again and recommend to our friends.

We travel a lot for work and have a list of the best motels in NZ and we have added this motel to the list; definitely be back and although we didn’t bring our dog we know now it’s dog friendly.

We stayed at the Chelsea park motel because it was pet friendly. We couldn’t have been happier with our accommodation. It was spacious, clean and well equipped. It’s in an ideal location within walking distance from the centre.

The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Our dog liked it too. We would definitely stay here again.

Great central city location, just a few blocks from all shopping and restaurants. We chose this place because it is pet friendly and we like to travel with our 2 wee dogs. We found the manager, Justin, to be very helpful and friendly.

The room was fairly standard for a motel unit, with a small kitchenette which allowed the preparation of simple meals. Our room had a small semi-enclosed back yard area which was great for the dogs. Wifi, TV, and heaters all worked very well.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall we had a good stay here and would definitely recommend to other travellers looking for a good central city base in Nelson.

Offering a seasonal outdoor pool and barbecue facilities, Alpine Adventure Holiday Park is just a 4-minute drive from Hammer Springs Thermal Pool and Spa.

If you feel like exploring the surrounding areas, Wai ariki Farm Park is a 5-minute drive away and Conical Hill is a 6-minute drive away.

Most rooms feature a seating area with a TV and a DVD player. Some have a fully equipped kitchen and a terrace with garden views.

14. Scenic Hotel Te Pania 4* – Pet Friendly Accommodation NZ

Scenic Hotel Te Pania enjoys a waterfront location on Marine Parade, overlooking Hawkes Bay. It features a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining, and rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows with high floors offering beautiful sea views. Guests enjoy free WiFi.

Scenic Hotel Te Pania is located in Napier, directly opposite the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre. The town’s famous Art Deco-style main street is just 2 minutes’ walk away.

With floor-to-ceiling windows and bay views, the airy rooms feature free Wi-Fi, plus flat-screens, minibars, and tea and coffeemaking equipment. The 1- and 2-bedroom suites add living rooms and kitchenettes. Room service is available 24/7.

Parking is complimentary. Breakfast (fee) is served in a contemporary restaurant that has a seasonal terrace, and there’s also a sleek bar. Guest laundry facilities are offered.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Scenic Hotel Napier we love how close it is to the city centre shops and a large number of cafes easy walk.

Parking is at rear of building.They also have one dog friendly room on the ground floor but you need to book early for this room.

Good location overlooking the foreshore. All rooms have views. Staff moved us to higher level on the second night as rooms came available which was a nice touch.Very handy location to Napier town, shops and restaurants.

Noted they allow dogs to stay as an option.

We wanted a place we could stay with our dog and there weren’t many options. Te Pania stood out because not only did it welcome dogs but also because it’s in a great location right on the waterfront. When we arrived we were greeted warmly, especially our dog, staff came out from behind the counter to pat him and give him a treat. The room was perfect, tucked away in the corner on the ground floor with doors directly accessing a flat lawn and the waterfront right across the road. They provided the dog with his own comfy bed and bowls and a treat was waiting for him. Staff were helpful and considerate during our stay and we will definitely stay here again next time we are in Napier.
