Dubrovnik is a city in southern Croatia fronting the Adriatic Sea. It’s known for its distinctive Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. Its well-preserved buildings range from baroque St. Blaise Church to Renaissance Sponza Palace and Gothic Rector’s Palace, now a history museum. Paved with limestone, the pedestrianized Stradun (or Placa) is lined with shops and restaurants.

1. Guesthouse Rustico 3* – Pet Friendly Hotels Dubrovnik Croatia

Guesthouse Rustico

Set in a building from 14th century, Guesthouse Rustico offers accommodation with a shabby chic style and a free WiFi throughout the property. Stradun is a 2-minute walk away.

The rooms are equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV, air conditioning and a safe. Private bathrooms come with free toiletries and a hairdryer. Some rooms also feature city views.

The guest house is 240 m from Onofrio’s Fountain and 350 m from Dubrovnik old town – Pile Gate.

Shabby-chic rooms with stone walls, plus free Wi-Fi in a cozy, relaxed hotel near Buza Beach.

We have stayed together with my husband and our two doggies two nights at Rustico. First night in the top room and the second night in the room number 2.
Both of them were fantastic but of course the top room is the most beautiful with the nicest views. We really liked shabby chic details. Huge plus for being animal friendly!

We stayed in the superior double (Room at the top – room number 5) and could not have been happier with our accommodation. The room had a triple aspect with windows overlooking the fort/walls, the Pile Gate/walls and then across the city to the hills. Everything worked well in the room (not always the case in other places we’ve stayed in) and the en-suite was a delight with plentiful hot water and a great shower.

The views from the room were a huge bonus and we never tired of them and the sunset over the fort was something to behold.

We managed to get access to our room, thanks to the very accommodating Dario who turned up when we rang him, at 0930hrs – which enabled us to to get on with our exploring early.

If you like walking, we walked up to the fort / cable car station on the hill (approx. 90 mins) and from there we went across to the Dubrovnik Dog Shelter (30 mins more).

The Dog Shelter was the highlight of our weekend to be honest – if you love dogs, please visit, the incredible Sandra and Tom are pleased to welcome visitors or even volunteers and your spirits will be lifted by their selfless work.

All in all we would stay at the Guesthouse Rustico in a heartbeat – couldn’t fault our stay or the welcome and ease checking in and out.

The family-friendly Valamar Club Dubrovnik Hotel on the lush Babin Kuk peninsula offers an easy access to the Old Town of Dubrovnik. The whole property is air-conditioned and the rooms offer all modern amenities. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

The large swimming pool, the multitude of sports courts, aquatic sports nearby at the beach and organised entertainment programmes for your kids provide for a pleasant vacation.

Other amenities include an outdoor pool with a bar and a kids’ area, as well as loaner bikes, beach volleyball, basketball and mini-golf.

Stayed here at the end of the season so it was very quite apart from a few coach parties that came for lunch. The views are amazing and depending on your room, you can lay in bed and watch the cruise liners come and go.

Food was very good with a fair selection and great terrace with a floor show of cats and a very fat dog.

This was one of the best hotels I have stayed in for ages, would highly recommend this, as quiet and yet easy to get into town by car and only 15 minutes from the airport.

To get to Dubrovnik you have a 5 minute walk uphill to catch a bus (the local #6 or a shuttle bus for tourists). Tickets for either bus can be obtained at the lobby of the hotel and they are very cheap (10 KN for shuttle; 8 KN for the local bus). The ride into town takes less than 15 minutes on the local bus; less than 10 minutes on the shuttle. We felt it was convenient enough to get into the old town, and did so several times. Also, at the hotel lobby it is possible to book day tours of nearby attractions. We took two trips with a tour group called Atlas – one to Montenegro and another to Mostar, Bosnia. We really enjoyed both these tours and thought that they were well worth experiencing.

We had a very pleasant stay at Club Valamar and felt all our needs were met.

The staff was always accommodating and addressed all our requests. I suppose the hotel’s nightly entertainment and mini club offerings were below average, but one thing that more than made up for this was the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere we found there.

In addition, we are a family of animal lovers and we truly enjoyed the four cats and one dog that hang around the hotel grounds – all very sweet and gentle.

3. Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik 5* – Dog Friendly Hotels Dubrovnik

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik

Located on the doorstep of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik boasts an indoor pool and a wellness centre with saunas, a hammam, fitness and massage facilities.

Set in a historic building built in 1897, the guest rooms are reflecting late 19th century charm combining it at the same time with modern technology. All the air-conditioned rooms are equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV. The private bathrooms are fitted with a bath containing an overhead shower.

A wide selection of seasonal Mediterranean specialities based on local ingredients, complemented by fruity Dalmatian wines, are served at the Imperial Terrace.

The spacious terrace and lounge area of the Executive Lounge offers panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and Dubrovnik’s ancient walls.

Set in a grand 1890s building and a 20th-century villa, this stately hotel is 3 minutes’ walk from both the medieval Franciscan Monastery and the 16th-century Pile Gate beside the Old Town.

Relaxed rooms feature flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi (fee) and iPod docks, plus minibars, and tea and coffeemakers. Upgraded rooms add balconies, sea views and separate sitting areas, as well as access to an executive lounge with free snacks.

Amenities include an elegant restaurant, a lobby bar and a terrace bar, along with 6 meeting rooms and a ballroom. A spa features an indoor pool, a hot tub and a sauna, plus a steam room, treatment rooms and a gym.

Also our little dog Funky was very happy that you allowed dogs to stay, he was sleeping in a 5 star hotel, and not a lot of dogs can “say” that to their friends 😉 .

One other thing I would like to mention is that Food was excellent, classic Buffet breakfast was very rich with lot of different foods, and the dinner service and dishes were absolutely brilliant.

The location of the hotel can not be beat, just steps away from the Old Town, but also an oasis of calm and elegance away from the bustle and tourist hordes. The hotel is elegant and cozy, everything was very clean, rooms are spacious and have everything you might need.

We had our dog with us and a doggy bed and food and water bowls were waiting for us in the room. Breakfast options are numerous, and the executive lounge a cozy place to have a drink and a snack.

It is a hotel policy that, we do not allow pets in our restaurant.

Although I didn’t come with pets, I noticed that pets are welcome, including pretty large ones.

If you have a room that comes with access to the Executive Lounge, you can have a basic breakfast there. However, we opted for the more substantial breakfast buffet downstairs instead. I was pleasantly surprised to see Japanese style offerings at the buffet, which I assume is to cater to the significant number of tourists from Japan that were staying there.

However, if you want better coffee, I suggest stopping by the Executive Lounge where they have excellent coffee before heading down to the breakfast buffet downstairs.
