Essaouira is a port city and resort on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Its medina (old town) is protected by 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah, which were designed by European engineers. Old brass cannons line the walls, and there are ocean views. Strong “Alizée” trade winds make the city’s crescent beach popular for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

The 5-star villas, rooms and suites are decorated in natural, soft colours and a butler service is provided. They are equipped with a minibar, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi access. All rooms feature a terrace with a view of the golf course or the sea.

The Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa resort has 5 restaurants, including a buffet restaurant and 4 restaurants serving à la carte dishes. There are also 4 bars where guests can relax after a day by the pool.

This luxe spa and golf hotel is 2 km from the beach and 8 km from Port d’Essaouira for boats to Mogador island.

 

The chic rooms, some with exotic wooden latticework, have minibars, free Wi-Fi and flat-screens, as well as balconies with pool or garden views. Upgraded quarters add sitting areas; some add ocean and/or golf course views, living rooms and whirlpool tubs. Trendy villas add private pools. Room service is offered 24/7.

Communal areas feature modern and Moorish-style decor, and include 4 cool restaurants and 3 bars. Breakfast is available for a fee. There’s a golf course, along with pools, a spa and tennis courts.

From the moment you walk in, you realise that Sofitel went the extra mile with this one. It does something very difficult, because it mixes European contemporary chic with local Moroccan colours and styles – and they have pulled it off spectacularly. Everything is eye-catching, from the ‘living wallpaper’ of greens in the foyer to the designs of the seats, lighting and rooms.

The setting was superb. A few km away from the town, the Sofitel is in splendid isolation perched up the hillside giving the rooms superb views of the golf course and grounds, leading all the way down to the Atlantic ocean.

The rooms are fabulous – mine was probably the most economical, but was large, had a great balcony with funky, comfy outdoor furniture, a huge shower and massive bath in beautiful Moroccan blue.

Food was good at both breakfast and dinner, I went to the main restaurant which was breezy uncomplicated and stylish.

The pool staff appeared to have been handpicked and I think I spied the chap who had been head of casting. He should get an Oscar.

2. Le Jardin des Douars 4* – Pet Friendly Hotels Essaouira

This Moroccan guesthouse is set on the banks of the Oued Ksob River, and offers 2 swimming pools and a wellness centre. Guests are free to relax in the garden or on the poolside terraces.

A traditional Moroccan décor is featured in all rooms and bungalows. Most rooms at Le Jardin des Douars open up to private terraces and some include a fireplace.

Moroccan cuisine and international dishes are proposed in the 2 on-site restaurants. Meals can be enjoyed al fresco on the terrace, and drinks are served in the bar.

The wellness centre includes a hammam and organises body treatments. A lounge area with a fireplace is presented, and the guesthouse provides babysitting services.

Set in the Essaouira hills, this romantic rural hotel with several buildings is 9 km from Golf de Mogador and 11 km from Tagharte Beach.

 

The relaxed, colorful rooms are individually decorated. Some rooms feature terraces and/or fireplaces. Family rooms and suites add lounge areas with extra beds. There are no TVs or telephones. Houses with private pools are also available.

Breakfast is complimentary. The hotel has 2 cozy restaurants and a lounge with a fireplace, as well as a terrace with a bar.

Other amenities include gardens, 2 outdoor pools and a wading pool for children, plus a spa with an adults-only pool and a steam room.
The pool and surrounding villa garden was lovely, and the villa was simply and beautifully furnished in local style. The hotel gardens are a labour of love.
The location is a bit out of the way, but it’s perfect for a quiet week away. The hotel also organises excursions as desired, surfing, quad biking, picnics, etc. I found the hammam treatment a bit fierce for my liking, but that’s just personal preference. Highly recommended place.
The hotel, pools, and surrounding garden were stunningly beautiful — a true oasis paradise in Essaouira. The staff was very professional, attentive, and impressively trilingual in English, French and Arabic.
The chef was excellent; we chose to eat dinner in the hotel twice and thought the meals were the best we had in Essaouira. The breakfast is plentiful and tasty. We also had a very relaxing massage at the hotel spa. We hope to be able to visit again soon.

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this chic whitewashed hotel is a 4-minute walk from Simon Attias Synagogue and a 5-minute walk from Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah Museum.

 

Decorated in muted, neutral tones, the elegant rooms are individually designed and come with architectural features ranging from fireplaces and aged-brass basins to tadelakt plaster walls. Some have terraces and/or ocean views and mezzanine levels.

There’s a cozy restaurant and a bar, plus a rooftop terrace with ocean views.

This boutique hotel was great and we ate breakfast on our own private balcony every morning as the sun came up.
Fantastic views of the beach and sea, the staff were very very helpful, couldn’t do enough, great location for local restaurants and the market.
Lovely hotel with great food and service. We had the junior cherifa suite. Very quiet with beautiful views but not as private as I had expected, since the main terrace is right next to this “private” terrace, separated by only a thin curtain.
Stairs could be an issue, as they are typical uneven heights and some pretty high. But we felt that added to the charm. The lobby is located on the second floor, a very long walk up, with our suite another flight up from there.
 The hotel is very well situated and the all crew is really helpful and efficient (reception, service in the room, giving useful information etc).
The junior suite is amazing and its private terrasse as well. We loved the delicious breakfasts! Everything is cleaned and well decorated. We can only recommend this place and wish that we can come again soon Inch’Allah! Shukran jazilan to everyone.
