Dog Friendly Tours in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory with a landscape of mountains, waterfalls and the El Yunque tropical rainforest. In San Juan, the capital and largest city, the Isla Verde area is known for its hotel strip, beach bars and casinos. Its Old San Juan neighborhood features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and El Morro and La Fortaleza, massive, centuries-old fortresses.

1. Hotel Melia Ponce 4* – Pet Friendly Hotels Puerto Rico

Hotel Melia Ponce

Set in a historic building in the heart of Ponce, Hotel Melia Ponce is the oldest hotel with an ongoing operation of 125 years. With 66 rooms, an outdoor adult & kiddie pool, onsite parking and complimentary WIFI.

Each room at Hotel Melia Ponce is decorated in a classic style and has air conditioning and cable TV. Some rooms feature unique Puerto Rican artwork and views of the historic city center. This is a pet-friendly property.

In the Lobby you’ll find Baleares Restaurant, a fine dining concept that serves Mediterranean & International cuisine as well as tapas and cocktails in the World Class Bar.

This polished hotel dating from 1895 is within 2 minutes’ walk of Ponce Cathedral, the Parque de Bombas museum and Plaza Las Delicias.

The laid-back rooms were designed by prominent Puerto Rican artisans, and include free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Upgraded rooms have balconies with plaza views.

Amenities include a rooftop bar, and an outdoor pool with an additional bar, plus a coffee shop.

The location is the best in Ponce. If you are going to visit Puerto Rico, I recommend you to visit Ponce, the largest city outside the San Juan area. Ponce has an historical heritage and you will enjoy Spanish era buildings and a more relaxed vibe than the Metro area. Among those buildings is the Hotel Melia (the real one, not the Gran Melia impostor). This is the oldest operating hotel in Puerto Rico since 1895.
The hotel has suffered many renovations during the years, but at the same time it retains its classic charm. Modern additions include a roof modern bar, a small but nice pool and some cool top of the line Convention rooms.
What I loved was the location, it’s in the downtown plaza and you can walk to see several different attractions and food places without having to get in a car. I also loved the friendly staff, they were wonderful, they accept pets, I traveled with my cat and he loved looking out the window.
The owner has a dog that I saw frequently, very friendly. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff, when I wanted to go somewhere, they gave me a map and drew on it and gave me very specific instructions, you will not find this level of hospitality out here.
Breakfast was ok, but the view was breathtaking. It is an older hotel, in an old building, but it is a historic area, so no surprises.

2. Parador Maunacaribe – Maunabo 2* – Pet Friendly Hotels in Puerto Rico

Parador Maunacaribe - Maunabo

Steps from Playa Los Pinos beach, this hotel offers a garden with an infinity pool. Guests can relax on the sun terrace or work out in the fitness center. Wi-Fi is free in all public areas.

The air-conditioned rooms at Parador Maunacaribe – Maunabo are equipped with microwaves and fridges. Each has satellite TV channels and a private bathroom with toiletries.

Seafood as well as local and international dishes can be enjoyed at the hotel’s restaurant. Situated right next to the pool area, it offers an air-conditioned dining room and a terrace for outdoor dining.

This is a mid-level hotel that uses its assets to advantage. Off the beaten tourist track, a lot of middle-class Puerto Ricans stay here with their families. It is on the beach, which is mostly deserted, nice pool and great staff.

Do not expect the Ritz. This is an inexpensive hotel that has older buildings. But if you want peace and tranquility, the ability to walk a couple of miles on uninterrupted beach, watch iguanas, land crabs, pelicans and local dogs, this is a great place.

The room doors all face out to the sea and have a tendency to rattle when the wind gets up. (At night this is noticeable!) but the rooms have fridges, microwaves and coffee…:)

The bar/restaurant is very capable and the drinks are cheap.

3. SeaGate Hotel 3* – Pet Friendly Hotels Puerto Rico

SeaGate Hotel

Sea Gate Hotel is located in Isabel II, a neighborhood in Vieques, and is in the historical district and near the beach. Vieques Ferry Terminal and Isabel Segunda Harbor are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area’s natural beauty can explore Bioluminescent Bay and Sea Glass Beach.

Discover the area’s water adventures with kayaking, scuba diving, and snorkeling nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with ecotours.

In general: the location not bad but little far from the beaches. The stuff was friendly at the beginning. We travel with the pet- Hotel is pet friendly, so dog or cat might left some hair in the room but our dog never sleep with us.

And we have not small dog. The listing in the room said that $20 fee in high season and $15 low season.

The room was quaint with a great breeze. The patio outside our room was a great place to sit with an ocean view. Breakfast was modest, but awesome that it was included. We met both hosts and they were extremely helpful.

Great place to stay with your pet if traveling with you. There are dogs on property as well as horses you can rent I believe.

What makes it great is that it is not a normal run of the mill hotel. Little rough and ready but that is what makes it special. Penny and her crew are all very friendly and helpful. What really won me over was the multitude of animals that abound on the property. Since I am an animal photographer I got to photograph the dogs and cats that call SeaGate home. Super friendly animals.

Nod the part Siamese cat quickly became best friends with us. We also got to meet the famous Fuzzy, what a cute dog. They also have horses, which you can ride.
