On a private island in the Laccadive Sea, this posh beach resort is a 15-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport.

Luxe villas have decks, beach access and sea views. All feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screens and iPod docks, as well as minibars, and tea and coffeemakers.

Upgraded villas add private pools and tropical outdoor showers. Some quarters are set overwater.

Breakfast is complimentary. There’s a Japanese restaurant and a beachside eatery, plus a chic cocktail bar and a poolside bar.

Other amenities include an infinity pool, and a spa with hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas.

A dive center and a kids’ club are also offered.

All of the accommodation is first class. We stayed in a deluxe lagoon villa with plunge pool.

The villa was immaculate, stocked with enough toiletries and towels which were replenished each day.

There were robes, slippers and life jackets for me, my husband and our daughter.

Netflix was also loaded up for us on our first night.

Housekeeping do an amazing job tidying up the rooms whilst we have breakfast each day including leaving some nice surprises (such as a rose petal filled bath).

Friends of ours stayed in a 2 bedroom beach villa which was huge and absolutely gorgeous in terms of decor, with great facilities including a spa room, larger pool and living areas and 3 bathrooms.

During our stay, we had a half board package and had breakfast and dinner at 24 Degrees.

The food was brilliant. Dishes were extremely varied and during our 7 night stay we rarely repeated a dish unless we absolutely loved it and wanted it again.

Top tip: If there is something you want which is not on the menu, please let your butler or the restaurant staff know the day before so that they will kindly arrange it for you.

All the restaurant staff were pleasant, efficient but special mention goes to those who assisted us regularly including Inaz, Fazla, Azim and Ashraf. Thank you all!

We also had dinner at the Deep End restaurant (the fine dining restaurant on the resort).

This has a set menu and everything we tasted was delicious.

As this was not suitable for the children in our party, the restaurant staff very kindly prepared alternative dishes for them which went down a treat!

We also got to see baby sharks whilst having dinner which is quite an experience.

Lunchtime dining at the pool was also exceptional. We tried the famous Lobster burger and were not disappointed at all! Service at the pool is great.

Water was brought out at frequent intervals including some other tasty treats like a passion fruit sorbet on one occasion.

2. Biyadhoo Island Resort 3* – Pet Friendly Resorts in Maldives

Nestled within tropical greenery, Biyadhoo Island Resort offers charming beachfront accommodation and a variety of water sports. Surrounded by sparkling blue waters, it features a semi open-air restaurant and spa.

Video Review of Biyadhoo Island Resort

The simply furnished rooms feature classic wood furnishings and views of surrounding greenery.

They come with air conditioning, a safe and tea/coffee making amenities.

Set on a private, 10-hectare island, this unfussy, casual resort is 29 km by boat from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and from Malé, the country’s capital and most populous city.

The simple rooms feature island decor, floor-to-ceiling windows, air conditioning and balconies or terraces. Upgraded rooms add beach views. Rooms lack TVs and Internet service.

Free continental breakfast is served in the casual restaurant.

There’s a spa and a thatched-roof bar, plus barbecue facilities. Activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, boat cruises, island excursions and fishing are also available, along with beach or other outdoor dining.

The Room:

Our room perfect, it was located on the west side of the island on the ground floor, from our patio door the beach was immediately accessible.

The room was spacious and clean, they had provided us with complimentary Covid face masks and a welcome coconut each.

The bed was comfortable and large enough for me and my partner to spread out.

Throughout our stay the room was always kept clean by the roomboy, he always decorated the bed with origami towels and as a special surprise on my birthday he provide me with a bottle of wine and dressed the bed with the words happy birthday.

The Island & Reef

The island is incredible, I have travelled all over the world and I’d definitely call this place paradise, everything is so relaxed, it doesn’t feel packed like some resorts as there’s always a spot to relax away from others.

When walking around the island the staff always greet you when passing and I really enjoyed meeting the groundsman who provided me with fresh coconut to drink.

The reef although bleached close to the beach is beginning to recover further out, on my first day I was able to swim with turtles which was amazing, on other days I swam with sharks, some the size of a dog others past the reef seemed to be close to 6 foot long which at first was slightly unnerving but after a short time I realised they were no threat and was able to get some amazing gopro videos of them passing close by.

I also really enjoyed seeing the clown fish, angelfish, parrot fish, the friendly unicorn fish, stingrays, eels and the cheeky triggerfish.

The amount of nature found on the island is astonishing both in the sea and on land, each day I spotted something different, some of my highlights on land were the flying fox bat, the friendly resident heron, the hermit crabs and the island chickens.

I especially enjoyed our evenings where’s we’d head down to the pier to watch the staff feeding the huge nurse sharks.

3. Cheval Blanc Randheli  5*– Pet Friendly Hotels Maldives

cheval blanc randheli

On an atoll surrounded by white-sand beaches and coral reefs, this luxe resort is accessed by seaplane from Malé.

Featuring thatched roofs and contemporary artwork, the ultrachic 1- and 2-bedroom villas provide living areas, dressing rooms and open-air bathrooms. In-villa dining is available.

Video Review of Cheval Blanc Randheli

There are 5 trendy restaurants and 2 bars, along with tennis courts, a gym, a kids’ club and a waterfront spa. Water sports and local tours are offered.

The rooms are expansive, luxurious, and offer a full length swimming pool (not the plunge pools you find in most “pool suites”).

We had the opportunity to stay in both an Island Villa (which offers essentially a private beach experience) as well as a Water Villa (a must-do while in the Maldives with great snorkeling right off of your room) and we would absolutely recommend experiencing both. Housekeeping and turn-down service is pristine and discrete.

Never once did we come back to the room to find housekeeping part-way through – something that seems to always happen at least once at other resorts which often results in you waiting to access your room or quickly running in to grab something.

The resort offers many dining concepts allowing for variety over a week’s vacation where as we often leave other island resorts feeling sick of the food on offering.

All are good and many are excellent.

The breakfast is the best we have ever had. We started each day with a green juice and then perused the a la carte menu which offers everything from authentic french pastries to locally inspired dishes, clean and healthy to rich and indulgent.

Our favorite dinners were at Le Diptyque and the Maldivian Night.

We also enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere of White Bar where a live DJ plays each evening.

Food, cocktails, and wine is expensive, but not out of line with fine dining elsewhere in the world and certainly fair relative to other resorts in the Maldives.

We enjoyed several of the fitness and yoga classes on offer, a paddleboard each morning, a kayak around all of the islands, beach volleyball, and plenty of snorkeling.

Cheval Blanc Randheli offers the highest-end service possible without being pretentious or snobby.

Finding this balance is challenging in the luxury resort segment and Laurent and team have nailed it perfectly. Before this trip, we considered the Maldives a once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

But after visiting CBR, we can’t possibly not go back.

The experience is a splurge and expensive, that is for certain. But the value is unmatched.

Do not hesitate – book this resort and prepare to never be satisfied elsewhere again.
