Han Tang Inn Hostel was my next hostel to sleep in China.
My route in China included only one night in Guilin. My arrival by train from XI’An was late in the evening after 28 hour ride so I wanted a hostel close to the train station and in a nice area of Guilin. As you know, before booking a hostel, I read at least 3 pages of reviews on hostelworld, by favorite booking system for hostels. And I look for reviews from nomads travelers, like me, not person which chose this type of accommodation for the first time only. So, Wada Hostel was the winning one in Guilin!
Second recommendation comes from etramping. They stayed at Ming Palace International Youth Hostel.
Han Tang Inn Hostel
Location: NO.7 Nan Chang Xiang, South of Xincheng Square
How to get to Han Tang Inn Hostel, Xian:
From the train Station.
Please be advised that there are two main train station in Xi’An; Xian North Train Station and XiÁn Train station. If you are coming with a regular train from South or even from Beijing you will end up at the North Station. If you are coming from Beijing to XiÁn by the bullet train, your final destination will be Xian Train Station
Take the subway Line 2 (red) and get off at the ZhongLou Zhan (Bell Tower )station. Its a 20 minutes ride by metro and you don’t have to change the lines. At arrival, take from Exit D. Go 5 meters up till you reach the Xi Yi Lu station, which is behind the subway exit. Walk down on this street around 300 meters and then take the first left followed by the first right which and you will be on Nan Chang Xiang南长巷. Go up on the street around 500m and the hostel is located on the right side of the road.
The other option is to take a mini-taxi and for 5 RMB from the metro station you are there; this is if you don’t get the indication right. As it happened to me! Just have the chinese name of the of the street!

Facilities
In terms of facilities, the hostel has almost everything you need . Tours are available at the reception: Terra-cotta Warriors Tour, Panda Breeding & Research Center Tour, Tibet Budget Tour, Traditional Tang Dynasty Singing & Dancing Show; can be book at the desk. I booked with them the Terra-cotta tours because I was to tired to do it by myself. Wanted as well the Tang Dynasty Dancing Show but it was sold out. Unfortunately the Panda tour was canceled too due to the low number of tourists. This is one downside of traveling alone!
Other free facilities: Computer Access and WIFI, Laundry facility use, Full-size billiards table, Pool table, Chinese Lesson and Majiang .
What I liked about the hostel was the day to evening activities. Every night was something different like the Dumping Party, Free Beer-pong, Free Trivia night, Free Chinese Drinking night, Free Sauna night and Free Game night. So if you are staying one week at the Han Tang Inn in Xian we will probably have a fun night every night. I wanted to try the sauna but I was too tired after the long visiting days
Internet connection was very good the lounge area and not that good in the room.
Recreation Area – Watching the TV
Breakfast is not included but you can either take it at the hostel ( around 20 RMB ) or at the places close to the hostel. You can try the some quick snack from the street vendors with only 2-3 RMB and other diseases as well. There are plenty of food shops just around the corner and some fast-foods too.
The hostel has a bar and and a roof terrace. Unfortunately it was close to due to the rainy season. Hope next time to drink a beer there!
The lockers are inside the room and there a big and many things can fit there.
Rooms & Prices
I stayed two nights at Han Tang Inn Hostel . I stayed in the Basic 6 Bed Mixed Dorm and the price was 7 $ per night or 46 RMB. The room was a bit small; 4 beds should have been enough in the room.
It was the only hostel with heated stove I encounter in the hostels I stayed in China: Dragon King Beijing, Wada Hostel Guilin and Forest Hostel Yangshuo.
I really liked the bathroom. Big, very clean and everything there was brand new. What I did it liked was the drainage system; when you showered the whole bathroom got wet. And that there was not a special spot design to put your clothes.
Atmosphere & Staff
The people at the front desk were very helpfully. Help me with good advices about the city and understanding the train tickets signs for the chinese system.
I traveled in low season and the hostel was not that crowded and the atmosphere was light during the evenings. Not so many tourists in the commun area; many the next time would be different.
Recommendation: 8/10. You can book the hostel online on booking.con
