Rooms at Splendido Hotel feature parquet floors. Some rooms feature details of decorative wallpaper and mid-century vintage design objects.
Splendido has rooms with private and shared bathrooms. They feature fans and heating. Some rooms have wrought-iron balconies with views of Bacacay Pedestrian Street.
The old building is tastefully decorated with gorgeous antique finds, each room is slightly different, fabulous high ceilings, a gorgeous little kitchen for guests to use.
Staying in this hotel fells more like staying in a friends mansion, than in a downtown hotel in a capital city.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a great view of the Teatro Solis. There is a kitchen, lots of hot water, free access to computers and Internet, a TV and a fridge in the room (depending on what you opt for), and funky areas to sit and relax.
Bathrooms are shared and its by no means 5* but its a great location, friendly staff and absolutely full of character. This is really a gem. We had a lovely stay and the people are lovely and super helpful – we only had a day to see a lot and their advice was spot on. The hotel itself is very well situated and comfortable and good value for money. Fantastic furniture and antiques. We loved it.
The hotel is simple and the infrastructure is good. Except for the internet connection that oscillate sometimes.
The bedroom is clean and the furniture brings us an idea of the last century. The bed is comfortable and the view to the theater is amazing (we stayed at the 2nd floor right in front to the theater). Ideal for 2 people.
The bathroom is clean, however shared. So the risk is that someone will be there when you have some emergency. The shower is ok.
The service is amazing and the receptionists are always ready to help. There’s one guy that speaks Portuguese fluently and it is very helpful sometimes.
Well, I really suggest this hotel
Tip: rent a bike and go cycling on the Ramblas along the seaside and visit some nice beaches more in the outskirts of Montevideo

Sofitel Montevideo has elegant air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms and free toiletries. Some rooms feature city views.
The hotel is right on the ‘rambla’ so you can get out and walk along the coast for hours if you like
The lobby and entrance are impressive, the restaurant is in the old ballroom, and the rooms are gracious even when they are small ones.
The spa is a welcome treat after a long road trip and there’s a beautiful pool and sauna area to relax in.
The rooms are spacious and super posh, with stunning views across the Ramblas beach front. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the room as well.
Breakfast is European style higher quality food.
The hotel is grand, exquisitely decorated and well situated in a beautiful part of the city. In walking distance there are several bars and shops.
Rooms are well equipped and spacious with luxurious beds and showers. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety and options for versatile diet needs. I used the gym twice- a fairly good size for a hotel.
The best part of this place was an exceptional service! Attentive and friendly staff was always ready to help with all questions. Must stay here.
A lovely room practically laid out, plenty of luxurious touches and 2 balconies over the River Plate.
Now I was a bit disappointed that the French windows only open a short way, however the next day when the wind whipped up and I could barely hold them when i tried to open them I was most relieved they were fixed.
Lounge area was well presented with a sofa and dining area and big flat screen TV. Bedroom had a huge King Sized bed with another flat screen opposite.
Dividing Panels meant the bedroom could be open plan or completely private.
Bathroom was everything to expect from Sofitel, expensive smellies from Hermes and a bath tube big enough for 2. With a walk in wet room big enough for a football team ( well 5 a side team ) and a separate toilet. The wash facilities were more than taken care of.
I went to explore the hotel, on the ground floor is a Sofitel Spa, not one for treatments so I can’t comment a but a beautiful pool to relax in. Not a pool for lengths but great place to chill and unwind.
The pool itself is both indoor and outdoor, so you can swim out to the garden ( seasonal ) where there are plenty of sun loungers and a food truck !! Well a Sofitel Food Truck.
Room service was prompt and the Caesar Salad I ordered was not quite the best I have ever had ( came very close ) However it was classic. I am not a fan when a chef tries to re invent the Caesar salad. Washed down with a glass of Uruguayan Sauvignon Blanc made a very good meal.
Complimentary water and chocolate arrived every night with the bed being turned down.
Breakfast was top of the tree 5 star Hotel ( see videos and pictures ) With a special mention for the Charcuterie certainly the finest I have ever eaten at breakfast and some of the finest I have eaten.
The service in the restaurant like the rest of hotel was exemplary.
Room facilities: City view, Flat-screen TV, Safety Deposit Box, Air conditioning, Desk, Shower, Hairdryer, Free toiletries, Bathroom, Minibar.

4. Casa Sarandi Guesthouse – Gay Friendly Hotels Montevideo
Our next suggestion is a nice boutique guest house in Montevideo located in the downtown or Ciudad Vieja.
This intimate guest house is situated in a 1930s Art-deco building and offers modern rooms with free Wi-Fi. The common living room features a balcony overlooking the street.
Casa Sarandi is a 1930s style art-deco guesthouse and loft in the heart of Montevideo’s Old City – the Ciudad Vieja in Spanish. The guesthouse is a block from the Colonial Square and the Cathedral and two blocks from Uruguay’s premier theatre, the Solis and from the rambla – a 25-km long promenade, great for biking and running.
The owners Karen and Sergio have lived in Montevideo since 2000, love the city and the national music scene and will help make your stay unique with their daily recommendations -most of which are walking distance– for things to do, places to go, the most unusual places to eat and drink and the most interesting music and culture Montevideo should be more famous for. Karen runs Guru’Guay, a much-visited website on Uruguay, and now author of a best-selling guidebook “The Guru’Guay Guide to Montevideo”.
The guest house is very intimate – just two guest rooms. Both rooms have hardwood floors, antique furnishings and original art. Besides your guest room and private bathroom, Casa Sarandi offers a cosy living room and a fully-equipped modern kitchen
The rooms at Casa Sarandi Guesthouse have creamy walls and parquet floors. They are equipped with a private bathroom.
Guests of Casa Sarandi can prepare their own meals in the fully-equipped modern kitchen or relax with a magazine in the shared living room.
Guesthouse is comfortable, clean, and kitchen well-stocked for cooking. Within walking distance is the Rambla (boardwalk near beach), quaint parks and shops, lots of restaurants, and 2 grocery stores are like next door.

The rooms at Casa Sarandi Guesthouse have creamy walls and parquet floors. They are equipped with a private bathroom.
The location is great, the rooms are spacious, and you’ll find everything you need in the home itself, from cooking supplies to great wifi.
If you are looking for the 5-star experience with room service and priority bookings for Spa appointments (you know, the kind where you had better look at the stationary again to remind you what city and country you’re in) this is not the place for you. If you want a VERY comfortable, clean, quiet, safe and charming place to stay that’s convenient to the entire Old City by foot, I would give Casa Sarandi some serious consideration
. Did I mention our incredible host? Karen was very responsive to emails before we left for Uruguay and sat down with us to plan our days as soon as we arrived. She’s an expert on knowing how timid or adventurous you are and can guide you accordingly. Yes, if you’re going to spend any time in Montevideo you should get her book “The Guru’Guay Guide to Montevideo,” It’s worth every penny and gives additional context to your conversation with Karen as you plan your stay.
The restaurants are wonderful, the nearby park and streets were a delight (and safe to walk). Montevideo is full of genuinely warm and inviting people and our only regret is that we did not plan to stay longer. Guess that means we’re coming back as soon as we can

5. Hotel America Montevideo 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Montevideo
Our las hotel recommendation in Montevideo is a 3* hotel with excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.
Just 5 blocks from Montevideo’s picturesque historic district, Ciudad Vieja, Hotel America offers room with free Wi-Fi. Pocitos Beach is a 15-minute drive and private parking is available.
Hotel America has air-conditioned rooms with LED TVs and minibars. All rooms have private bathrooms with showers and toiletries.
America offers a buffet breakfast with fresh juices and croissants.Three star hotel located in Montevideo downtown. All rooms just refurbished and furnished with air conditioning, cable TV, LED’s, frigobar, Optic fiber, high speed WI-FI in all rooms and other areas. All kinds of restaurants within walking distance. Money exchange across the road.
The rooms are small, but very comfortable and cleaned every day as so the breakfast area.
The breakfast is included and it is very good. Everyday is served the famous and delicious
Media Luna, a type of bread very popular in Uruguay.
This property is a true bargain and would cost quadruple in any other city. Modern rooms with hundreds of TV and audio channels available feature personal safes, individually controlled heat, and unbelievably clean floors and bathrooms (I walked barefoot to test that–feet stayed clean!). The bed was a marshmallow mattress, true, but I still slept soundly due to the quiet and comfortable temperatures.
Breakfast is served every morning from 7 to 10:30 AM, a very reasonable time frame. Although the usual items are included–cold cuts, cheese, bread, croissants, spreads, etc.–this hotel makes it extra special by including not only toasters but also individual sandwich makers! On those chilly winter mornings, it is heaven to be able to make a grilled ham and cheese sandwich (or two!) in just a few minutes. There are also yogurt drinks, juices, cereal, and corn bread available. Dining room is spacious and it is all you can eat.
There are elevators, a spacious lobby, a water cooler, and 24/7 front desk service. While all the staff were efficient, I want to mention that Gabriel was particularly professional and helpful and made my stay there a special one. The location is right in the middle of the central area of Montevideo, very safe and walkable to all tourist attractions.
I definitely recommend this property to other travelers and would stay here again myself the next time I am in Montevideo
Room facilities: Air conditioning, Desk, Heating, Shower, Hairdryer, Free toiletries, Toilet, Bathroom, Telephone, Cable Channels, Flat-screen TV, Minibar, Wake-up service.
