The Step Sathon

The Step Sathorn Bangkok Thailand (2024 Review)

Location @ The Step Sathorn

Located in the business district Silom /Sathorn, The Step Sathorn Hotel has the 56 rooms on 8th floors.

The location of the hotel is perfect—close/just a few steps to Surasak BTS station (the same side as Blue Elephant restaurant), convenience stores, a laundry service, and a hospital. It was surprisingly quiet despite being near a busy major street/highway.

I had chosen the The Step Sathorn because it’s due proximity to the Embassy of Myanmar in Bangkok as I had to do my Social Visa Extension. I did not want to stay to the area of Sukhumvit as I usually stay in hotels as S44Room  because I did not wanted to wake up too early and loose time in the morning rush of Bangkok with the BTS (had to change 1 line as well at SIAM).

Secondly I wanted a hotel in Bangkok close to a BTS and The Step Sathorn is 1 minute walking from the Surasak BTS and close to the jetty area of the boat tours in Bangkok.

I have decided to book the cheapest room available at The Step Sathorn I was staying only for 1 night and was alone as well so I decided to book an Superior Room priced at 29$ or 900 Thai Baht at that moment with the exchange rate without breakfast as I read before the reviews which did not were too good regarding the breakfast

The room we had was spacious and what surprised me was the 2 separated spaces for the wardrobe (separate space from the main room) and the shower area which was quite big.

Bed was a bit too hard but I had a nice sleep and it was no noise coming from outside.

Everything was in decent condition, from the bed, to the shower (cold only for the times I took the shower but being hot in Bangkok it was not such a big issue), the air conditioning unit (without it’s impossible to stay in any hotel room in Bangkok ) the electric kettle (did not use it)  the tv ( I rarely use the TV during my trips) etc.

My room had a window as well – not such a spectacular view but I like to book rooms with windows as some time the fresh air (not the polluted air of Bangkok) it’s better than the AC.

Internet was very good ( I stayed at 5th floor) and had no problem to connect to the internet and it was quite fas.

However, most importantly, there is Surasak BTS Skytrain Station beside the hotel which is excellent and very convenient for travel to other places and especially being a hotel close to the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok.

The breakfast (not included included but from the restaurant next door) is pretty ordinary – could have given that a miss and go to other coffee shops in the area of Sandton.

Free toiletries as soap, shower gel and shampoo are provided. Towels were clean but a bit too old – maybe they should consider change it in the future.

What I liked about the bathroom and shower was that it was separate from the main area of the toilet and the water did not split over it. Sink was clean and very big as well.

As mentioned before the shower was cold and no hot water was coming from it.

Pros of the The Step Sathon Bangkok Hotel

1. Location – 50 steps away from the Surasak BTS. 3 minutes walk from the Thai CC tower. Family Mart and street food just around the corner. 5 minutes walking distance from the Embassy of Myanmar in Bangkok

2. Big room & bathroom for a budget hotel. Room and bathroom were very clean.

3. Quiet although located in an active area.

4. Nice restaurant on the ground floor although no options for vegetarians.

5. Friendly and efficient staff.

Cons of the The Step Sathon Bangkok Hotel

1. Breakfast – not so many options for the price you will pay (around 200 thai baht)

2. Old floor – the floor is a bit horn down and a change is needed.
