1. Chelsea Park Motor Lodge 4* – Pet Friendly Accommodation Nelson

Chelsea Park Motor Lodge offers luxuriously appointed rooms with free unlimited Wi-Fi, just 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Nelson. All rooms have a kitchenette and a flat-screen TV with 50 satellite channels.

Chelsea Park’s spacious rooms include a microwave, satellite TV and a DVD player. Each room has a bathroom with a hairdryer and free toiletries. Some rooms boast a patio or private balcony.

This low-key motel in the city centre is an 8-minute walk from the 19th-century Christ Church Cathedral and 9 minutes on foot from Nelson Provincial Museum.

Modern studios provide free Wi-Fi, as well as sitting areas and kitchenettes. All have terraces or balconies, while 1- and 2-bedroom suites add living/dining rooms. Some quarters include whirlpool baths.

A BBQ area and laundry service are available.

We arrived after a day motorbiking, opened the door to a clean, stylish unit with a cosy outdoor patio bathed in the afternoon sun. I was so pleased to see it was pet friendly and met a couple of dog guests.

Will definitely use again and recommend to our friends.

We travel a lot for work and have a list of the best motels in NZ and we have added this motel to the list; definitely be back and although we didn’t bring our dog we know now it’s dog friendly.

We stayed at the Chelsea park motel because it was pet friendly. We couldn’t have been happier with our accommodation. It was spacious, clean and well equipped. It’s in an ideal location within walking distance from the centre.

The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Our dog liked it too. We would definitely stay here again.

Great central city location, just a few blocks from all shopping and restaurants. We chose this place because it is pet friendly and we like to travel with our 2 wee dogs. We found the manager, Justin, to be very helpful and friendly.

The room was fairly standard for a motel unit, with a small kitchenette which allowed the preparation of simple meals. Our room had a small semi-enclosed back yard area which was great for the dogs. Wifi, TV, and heaters all worked very well.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall we had a good stay here and would definitely recommend to other travellers looking for a good central city base in Nelson.

2. The Prince Albert Backpackers & Bar 3* – Dog Friendly Accommodation Nelson

Built in 1888, The Prince Albert Backpackers & Bar is a heritage building with free Wi-Fi, free bicycle hire and an onsite bar and restaurant.

Prince Albert Backpackers is a 5-minute walk from Nelson. It is a 10-minute walk from the bus terminal, free pick-up and drop-off can be arranged. It is a 5-minute drive from Trafalgar Park and a 15-minute drive from Nelson Airport.

All heated rooms have carpeted floors and an en suite bathroom with a shower and toilet.

In a heritage building, this lively hostel is a km from the centre of Nelson and 5 km from Tahunanui beach.

Featuring private bathrooms, the simple, airy rooms and dorms also feature free Wi-Fi.

Free hot breakfast, including waffles, is served in an informal public bar and restaurant with a beer garden. Other amenities include a guest kitchen and laundry facilities, lounges, and an outdoor area with hammocks.

Included in the price are bike hire, beach games, tubing down the Maitai river and a shuttle service to the bus station and i-SITE.

The rooms are clean and tidy. And it’s such a big plus that my dog is welcomed on our stays. The food at the bar is great kiwi pub food and the staff are so welcoming and helpful.

Very relaxed and good value for money. Deals with dinner and drinks. And awesome we could have our dog brax with us!!

I love the fact that pets are really not just allowed but welcomed as part of the family – coffee is available even if the bar is not open to the public. We will stay here again.

The staff here are welcoming and attentive also and dogs are welcome.

3. Milton Chalet Motel 3* – Pet Friendly Accommodation Nelson

Milton Chalet Motel is situated just 10 minutes’ drive from Tahunanui Beach. It offers self-catering studios and apartments. There is an outdoor swimming pool and spa pool. Barbecue facilities are available.

The spacious studios and apartments at Milton Motel come with kitchen facilities and satellite TV. Most offer covered, private parking for free. They are also serviced daily.

Restaurants, cafes and shops can be found within a short walk of the motel and Nelson’s city centre is located just 10 minutes’ drive away.

Dog Friendly. That’s why I chose it. Would love to go there again, room was older style but perfect for us with all we needed. Spacious, Comfy bed, hot shower, TV. Pool looked inviting but the weather wasn’t.

Very friendly staff. Great space with full standalone oven stove unit for cooking need.

Just across the road is a row of shops with superette, gourmet takeaway and dog friendly local bar serving fresh tab beers and craft beers with good snacks option. Pet friendly and clean that is excellent!

The location was great – close to town and Founders Park. We loved that the motel is very pet friendly. Our dog was made very welcome. The kitchen was well-equipped, with everything we needed.
