Guide to Eco Hotels in Brazil (2024 Updated)

An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment and eco friendly hotels Brazil are considered excellent place to hang out for a couple of nights in Rio de Janeiro and beyond in Brazil.

Brazil has a generally advanced and comprehensive legislation on environmental protection and sustainability. Laws regarding forests, water, and wildlife have been in effect since the 1930s.

Brazil is home to one of the most popular ecotourism destinations on Earth: the Amazon. The river itself and the surrounding jungle are a major draw for thousands of tourists every year. Everything from structured day hikes from jungle lodges to extended treks are very popular. Since the area is already under substantial pressure from logging interests, the country of Brazil has taken a few specialized measures to help mitigate the damage of this ever-growing influx of tourists.

1. Arena Copacabana Hotel 4* – Eco Friendly Hotels in Rio de Janeiro

Arena Copacabana Hotel
Arena Copacabana Hotel

Ideally located right next to Copacabana Beach, this modern hotel offers a panoramic rooftop pool. Gym, sauna and a fine restaurant are its highlights. Free WiFi access is provided throughout.

The air-conditioned rooms at Arena Copacabana Hotel feature LCD TV, minibar, laptop safe and soundproofed windows. Some rooms offer an ocean view.

At Fennel Restaurant, guests enjoy a rich buffet breakfast with tropical items, plus contemporary Brazilian and international dishes. In addition, the hotel has poolside and indoor bars, where guests can order snacks and exotic cocktails.

Across the street from Copacabana Beach, this modern hotel is a 7-minute walk from a metro station and 15 km from the Christ the Redeemer statue.

The streamlined rooms come with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus mini fridges and desks. Upgraded rooms feature sea views, while suites add separate living spaces. Room service is available.

A breakfast buffet is complimentary. There’s a casual restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows, along with a lobby bar. Other amenities include a rooftop pool, a fitness room and a sauna.

Our ocean view room was contemporary in design with many eco-friendly features. We appreciated the convenience of a refrigerator, wi-fi, safe, and flip-flops in our room. We were bowled over by the breakfast buffet, which featured different offerings each morning. The rooftop bar and pool area was a great retreat for relaxing and visiting. Plus, we could Christ the Redeemer from the roof.

The front desk staff was very helpful, and quick to respond to requests. They all spoke English, as well as other languages. The room key access to the elevator made us feel very secure. While there we used the laundry/dry cleaning service twice and each time our clothes were returned promptly, looking great. We highly recommend The Arena Copacabana for your stay in Rio.

he hotel lives up to its reputation. We splurged for a sea view room & asked for a high floor. The view from our floor-to-ceiling windows was spectacular. The room itself was spotless, tranquil, & well-designed, with a good large bed, fine bathroom, strong hot shower, mini-bar, quiet a/c, and closet space. Although it overlooks Copacabana Beach and the huge boulevard, it was well-soundproofed. We heard almost no traffic, nor any neighbors in adjacent rooms. The buffet breakfast, included in the room rate, was of decent quality & variety. We loved returning each evening after a long day of sightseeing.

Best of all was the service. The front desk staff was extremely warm, professional, and accommodating.

he Arena is eco-friendly, so its modernist rooms do not come with a slew of toiletries (just the basics), extra towels (though I’m sure you can ask for them — we asked for extra pillows & got them immediately), or lots of papers in the room explaining this-and-that. There are no high-end frills like turndown service or slippers. The aesthetic is minimalist — but not skimpy.

The breakfast was above average with typical scrambled eggs, juices, breads, cold ham, toast, and great fruits such as mango. The coffee was superb. The label themselves as an ‘eco-friendly’ hotel. This means the water in the shower is not really hot enough to shower.

2. Txai Resort 5* – Eco Friendly Hotels Brazil

Txai Resort
Txai Resort

Txai is a 5-star resort set amidst the Atlantic Rainforest, a protected environmental area, 15 km from Itacaré. It offers a spa, the Shamash Healing Space, with panoramic ocean views, 5 pools surrounded by coconut trees and a tennis court. Free WiFi is provided in this eco-friendly resort. This property is a member of the Relais & Chateaux group.

The spacious suites and private bungalows at the Txai are built on suspended wooden decks and have king-size 4-poster beds. Tastefully decorated, all have air conditioning and some feature private balconies with panoramic ocean views, while others offer Atlantic Forest views.

Set in a coconut farm, Txai also offers the unique experience of visiting the beach during the turtle nesting season. Guests at Txai Resort can take a walk through Itacarezinho Beach, hiking up the hill, pass through Havaizinho Beach, and arrive at Engenhoca Beach.

Set on a coconut and cacao farm surrounded by forest, this remote, luxurious beachfront resort off the BA-001 highway is 18 km from the town of Itacaré.

Chic bungalows and apartments made of bamboo and palm are set on wooden decks and stilts. All feature free Wifi and balconies, and most have outdoor showers. Upgraded units add private pools and/or ocean views. Room service is available.

Freebies include parking and a breakfast buffet. There are 3 restaurants, 4 bars and 5 outdoor pools, plus a spa, an ocean-view fitness room and a tennis court. Other amenities include a reading room, guest lounges, and surfing, tai chi and capoeira classes.

Being present right here and right now, feeling good about life and connected to nature, that’s the atmosphere created by the Txai Resort Itacare to comfortably welcome you.. Spreading between the sea and the forest, in Itacarezinho, on the southern coast of the state of Bahia, the resort exhales coziness to the smallest detail. Everything here is differentiated, with clean-cut flowery pathways, fruits, roots and herbs that give life to every little corner and sharpen your senses. Its architecture provides spaces in harmony with the local landscape. The constructions are light and employ native raw materials such as piassaba, bamboo and palm oil splices. The bungalows are large and comfortable. The resort’s gastronomy is marked by an encounter of the delicious cuisine from Bahia with the sophistication of contemporary trends.
Everything is light, fresh and suave, with dishes prepared and served with art. Our days are full and you’ll be in doubt whether to let life take you its own way in the pace of the tides, lie under the Sun between the swimming pools and the sea shore, or go after new horizons in exclusive promenades along wild beaches, secret waterfalls, and beautiful mangroves, or also dive into the rich native culture with its Capoeira rounds and the sound of “afoxes” (an African-Brazilian percussion instrument)..
That’s Txai, a word inspired by the local indigenous language of the Kaxinawa, which means companion. For us that word’s meaning is much more overarching. Txai symbolizes the gesture of friendship with which we welcome you, creating at every moment the simplest reasons to celebrate life. After all, feeling cozy and welcomed will be good to your body and soul.
Although the hotel is almost 20 years old, the property is very well maintained, staff is friendly and the service in general was above my expectations. We stayed in a very charming bangalô few steps from the pool and short walking distance the the gorgeous beach. The area has kilometers of untouched nature, beautiful trees, clean water and you can walk literally hours without seeing anyone at the beach. You don’t need to leave the property for anything, perfect way to relax and enjoy nature and be spoiled with the very best of Brazil.
Very good news is that you can bring your own wine and don’t have to pay anything extra. I had my champagne served at the beach at perfect temperature in an ice bucket and proper glasses. The spa is one of the highlights, located on the top of the hill, with a pool, sauna and perhaps one of the best massage experience that I ever had, comparable to Asia and the type you will never find in America. Strongly recommend walking at the beach with Capixaba, a local guide that will tell you the stories of the area. Local people are as nice as you can get, super friendly and always smiling.
The beach of the hotel is considered almost as private and with a clean and extensive beach. The water is clean and temperate but with plenty of ripple. The sand on the beach is fine and does not hinder boardwalks.
he grounds and the private beach are both stunning! You can walk for miles on the pristine beach, and not see anyone, so it definitely gives you the secluded paradise feel!
The rooms are great (some have outside showers only, so if that is not your thing, be sure to request differently) and all have ocean views.
The spa is also a must! It’s located on top of the hill and has gorgeous views. The massages were perfect.
Cocktails are delicious, and their afternoon tea was also yummy. We found the food at the restaurant good, but not amazing. That would be the one improvement the resort could make.
If you are wanting a relaxing, lounge-around-the-hotel kind of vacation, I definitely recommend this hotel. Beautiful pool and beach all day. This hotel is not walking distance to anything, so if you are wanting more activities and exploring, maybe choose elsewhere.

Loved staying in this resort in the interior of Sao Paulo state. Large facility, spacious rooms, different pools, lots with heated water. Plenty of sport or family activities available. Loved the tirolesa (total length of 400m). Staff very friendly and proactive. Food delicious. Hygiene measures in place. Internet available everywhere (cell phone services don’t pick up a signal. Loved the place. In short: We will most likely be back with our family at some point in the future.

We are simply stunned by this place in all aspects, from the amazing location surrounded by beautiful and preserved nature, added with the sophistication of resort, with spacious bedrooms, 8 different pools for all ages and moods, to the superb , “á la cart” level food in the buffet! On top of that, a super staff, always smiling with a proactive attitude and willing help . Finally, lots of activities for all ages and with trusted supervision for the little ones! In resume, this is the best place we stayed in Brazil and probably among the best we visited around the world!

It’s a great hotel for families. 8 pools to choose from and lots of activities to keep kids from all ages entertained. Place was very clean and well maintained. Staff was very friendly. The restaurant staff was a bit slow. If you wanted a drink, you really had to get their attention. The “monitores” or “tiozinhos” were very impressive. The playground was absolutely amazing!!! The playrooms were fantastic.

The food was pretty decent. But nothing was bilingual, which is fine since you’re in Brazil, but if you don’t speak Portuguese, it will be very difficult and frustrating. The restaurant did not have signs in other language than Portuguese. The front desk staff did not speak English. The restaurant staff did not speak English. The adventure crew did not speak English. We were lucky to find one staff person at the spa who spoke English and there were 3 counselors from the kids club who spoke English and they made all the difference to us!

5. Pousada Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge 3* – Eco Friendly Hotels Brazil

Inn Pousada Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge
Inn Pousada Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge

Located within the Pantanal area in Poconé, Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge features a pool, gift shop and a terrace with hammocks. All tours are free: hiking, horse-riding, photo safari, canoeing activities, as well as night excursions. Wi-Fi is free in public areas.

With a balcony and hammock, all rooms are air-conditioned. They offer a rustic décor with dark timber furniture.

The restaurant serves a variety of regional dishes, as well as a daily buffet breakfast. Guests can enjoy snacks and drinks at the bar. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and an afternoon snack are all included in the full board meal plan.

Set inside the sprawling Pantanal wildlife sanctuary, this laid-back lodge is 2 km from the MT-060 regional highway. It’s 30 km from the eateries and shops in Poconé town center.

Featuring private entrances and screened windows, the unassuming rooms provide en suite bathrooms, plus porches with hammocks.

There’s a low-key restaurant and bar, as well as an outdoor pool and observation towers. Activities such as guided safaris, horseback rides, birdwatching, canoeing and hiking are available.

PANTANAL is considered South American main wildlife sanctuary. Araras Pantanal Eco Lodge (latitude 16°30’42,3 South, longitude 56°42’,4” West) is located at the heart of the Pantanal, South of Cuiabá – capital of the state of Mato Grosso. Built in harmony with the environment, without skimping on comfort, the lodge is easily reached by car all year-round, using the Transpantaneira Park Road, 132 km / 82 mi. Transfers using air-conditioned vehicles are always an exciting photo-safari.

The wildlife around the lodge and local trails is so diverse and abundant – I couldn’t believe how many species we saw! Our guides (Aynore & Bruno) were both excellent – so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful – explaining all about the local flora and fauna. How they managed to spot some of the wildlife especially on the night safaris is beyond me! All the staff at the lodge we really friendly and so helpful. The food was excellent throughout with lots of choice.

Our room was very clean and comfortable with lovely rustic decor. Great shower using solar heated water. The lodge are clearly very eco-conscious which is great. You could spend days just wandering around the lodge complex watching the wildlife and enjoying the laid back vibe in the lovely hammocks along the terrace but the lodge ensure there are plenty of guided activities to enjoy too. I hope we can return one day. Absolutely amazing experience.

The friendly hospitable welcome we received set the stage for a delightful stay.

Rooms are clean well appointed for an eco lodge with fan and air conditioning. Good bathrooms and lack of creepy crawlers which was appreciated by us.

There were lots of activities to do all of which were interesting and well organised.

Food was excellent with a great variety and the quantity was sufficient for the birds to steal their share. And there are an awesome number of birds around the
property.

All the staff were great and this ethos is derived from the owners who are really hands on.

There is even WiFi.

From beginning to end this eco-lodge was a great place to stay. Rooms were extremely clean when we arrived and staff thoroughly cleaned them each day of our stay. There was plenty of hot water for showers and clean, soft, large bath towels. Climate control in our room was easy.

Food choices were plentiful and delicious. Fruits and veggies were especially pleasing with lots of freshly sliced avocados, pineapples, papaya, tomatoes and melons. I remember that there were at least 2 or more meat choices for lunch and dinner, and these were tasty as well. We brought our own wine and they graciously opened bottles, provided glasses, and even snacks for us. Loved that we ate breakfast and lunch outside! Wifi was consistently available in and near the reception area which is usually our experience at eco-lodges.

Grounds are well maintained and beautiful. Wildlife is quite impressive. We saw Tamandua, Great Anteaters, caimans, capybara, agouti, two kinds of monkeys, and possibly 75 plus bird species – and all of this by walking around the grounds of the lodge. Small swimming pool available although the temps were too cool for swimming while we were there.
Everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcome and comfortable. I have stayed at several eco-lodges in different countries and this one is definitely one I would recommend.

So many thing to love about this place. First, the delicious farm to table meals. Lots of options for vegetarian and gluten-free diet. The ecofriendly hair and bath products are excellent (my hair was soft and silky). The moment I entered the room, the light and sweet fragrance captivated me. The owners are also warm and attentive. The highlight of my stay was interacting with “Blue” the resident hyacinth Macaw. Miss him already. I will definitely come back.
