It’s known for its Mediterranean beaches and seafront promenade lined with grand mansion and gay friendly hotels Sitges. The compact old town and surrounding streets are filled with shops, restaurants, and many gay bars and nightclubs. The Maricel Museum and Cau Ferrat Museum showcase Catalan and other Spanish art.

What are the top attractions to visit in Sitges?

Sitges is well worth a visit! After a couple of days in Barcelona (see separate review) my friend, who was visiting from Canada, and I headed off for a week in SitgesSitges is situated about 35 kilometres South West of Barcelona and is renowned for it’s film festival and carnival.

1. Hotel Medium Romàntic – Gay Friendly Hotels Sitges

Hotel Medium Romantic
Hotel Medium Romantic

Hotel Romàntic occupies 2 elegant 19th-century villas, just 400 m from Sitges Beach. This charming hotel offers individually decorated rooms with free Wi-Fi, many with a terrace overlooking the garden.

The Romàntic features original paintings, ceramics and sculptures throughout. Rooms have simple, stylish décor and include a fan, a safe and a private bathroom with a hairdryer.

You can enjoy breakfast in the bright dining room or outside on the peaceful garden-terrace. There are also various gay bars and restaurants within a 5-minute walk of the hotel.

The hotel medium romantic occupies two modernist-style villas that preserve nineteenth-century decoration. In common areas and rooms it is possible to contemplate an extensive collection of artworks, consisting of paintings, ceramics and original sculptures.

The garden is one of the most charming place of all Sitges: a dreamful space where to relax among palm trees, ivy and honeysuckle. The hotel is located in the historic center, five minutes from the beach, the entertainment centers and the train station. It has a bar and several lounges.

It offers a delicious hot breakfast, served in one of the interior lounge or in the garden. The rooms are spacious and equipped with all facilities to live a comfortable stay. Some of them have a terrace overlooking the garden.

Straight out of a 50’s Tennessee Williams’s play, this hotel boasts high ceilings, antique, dark-wood furniture, lovely tall doors opening on even lovelier patios. Mid-century modern art and very friendly help.  Sitges is a crowded and bustling town, but this hotel offered some respite. Very gay oriented, which was what I wanted. But straight friendly with fairly friendly straights.

. In any case I would really suggest this particular hotel rather than other gay hotels in Sitges (please mind both Romantic and La Renaixenca hotels are treated as purely gay). I would even say it’s ideal for a gay couple – if you are single and looking for adventures it’s better to book another hotel e.g. Calipolis not those ones.

Literally 5 minutes walk from the train station with really easy transport links from the airport.

Next to the train station is a supermarket for your in-room wine requirements!!

2 minutes walk in the opposite direction and you’re in the middle of town. There was a little bit of noise but that’s because there was a special event in a bar nearby. Even then, not a real problem.

The decor is wonderfully eclectic and arty, lots of paintings and murals in all styles, it’s a wonder in its own right!

Breakfast is really good, a small selection of hot food, continental breakfast, fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, fruit juices and hot drinks. A fabulous start to the day.

The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. And seem to work the longest shifts! At check in the receptionist quickly booked us in as we arrived late. Whatever we needed from them was never too much trouble, always with a smile. It makes a massive difference and these guys clearly know that.

Perfectly located for the station, shops and the beach. Bars and restaurants are also in the vicinity.

Hotel was beautifully appointed. It is not a boutique hotel, it is furnished with classic huge old furniture. The bed was super comfy.

The hotel is situated right in the heart of Sitges but we never heard a single noise and slept very well.

Firstly, this is a one star hotel in an old colonial style building. Contrary to other reviews when we arrived we walked into a spotlessly clean hallway with a lovely fresh smell. Our room was a twin with balcony located on the first floor. It was nicely appointed, exceptionally clean with a nice balcony. The shower was powerful (albeit an old fashioned type), the basin new and of a style in keeping with the age of the house.

There was a kettle and hospitality set in the room but the coffees and mini milks weren’t always replenished and they did not provide spoons – minor details which could be improved. The room also had a mini fridge and some water on the first day.

Check in and breakfast were at the sister hotel – literally a 45 second walk and not an issue. Yes the other hotel is grander, but you are free to use it’s facilities – lovely lounges, bar and communal areas / garden. As Renaixenca is cheaper than the sister hotel (romance) you won’t feel short changed.

The breakfast was great – scrambled eggs, bacon, tortilla, huge variety of fresh fruit, cereals, bread and cheeses etc. The staff were very very friendly (particularly the lovely Peruvian lady in the breakfast area) and both buildings are full of character. The location is superb – metres from the train station and the beach / church. So unless you are accustomed/ prefer corporate type hotels this is a very good budget choice. Muchas gracias.

3. Calipolis Hotel Sitges 4* – Gay Hotels Sitges

Calipolis Sitges
Calipolis Sitges

Calipolis is located in central Sitges, just 50 m from the beach. It offers a 24-hour reception, an outdoor pool, gym and air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi.

The elegant rooms at the Calipolis feature a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Free pool towels are provided.

The hotel’s Infinity Restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine next to the pool. There is also a bar and summer terrace with views of the sea and promenade.

I imagine this architecturally distinctive hotel popping off the Sitges coastline as fresh and clean about ten years ago. Its glory is now a bit faded. It remains mere footsteps from the gay beach in Sitges. But Sitges itself is so small and walkable that the location should not be a visitor’s determining feature

Set in a stunning part of the Mediterranean, the Calipolis hotel boasts the best location in Sitges, with a full guarantee of quality and service. The Calipolis Hotel offers a total of 170 large, comfortable and well-lit rooms. All of them are equipped with air conditioning, heating, a desk, satellite television, mini bar, free safety deposit box, bathroom with hair dryer and toiletries, and FREE WI-FI. Rooms with a sea view, right on the beachfront, have a large private terrace with views of the Mediterranean.
Hotel Calipolis is located directly across from the beach, the gay beach which was a great swimming spot during our stay in Sitges. All of the staff at Calipolis are friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay more enjoyable.
The rooms are spacious enough and we were lucky to have a gorgeous view of the sea. Breakfast is buffet style with a large variety of options. The pool is small, but perfect for a dip in the afternoon after a day at the beach.
We picked Calipolis mainly for its location, as it is right next to the gay portion of the beach, and is within spitting distance to the busy portion of town.

The views from the balconies are spectacular and wonderfully relaxing. On these points, Calipolis can’t be beaten and perhaps they are factors that the owners of the property take for granted.

The hotel is also very easy walking distance from all the best bars, restaurants and nightlife in Sitges but far away enough not to be disturbed by the bustling of the town’s busy night scene. Again a great plus!

The location is great and the staff is very friendly. We had an ocean front room and the view was simply amazing. The balcony/terrace was very large and comfortable with a nice table and chairs where we were able to have dinner one night overlooking the mediterranean.

4. Hotel Medium Sitges Park 3* – Gay Friendly Hotels Sitges

Hotel Medium Sitges Park
Hotel Medium Sitges Park

Housed in a striking Modernist building, Hotel Medium Sitges Park features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool set in gardens. It is just 10 minutes’ walk from Sitges Beach.

Hotel Medium Sitges Park’s stylish rooms have attractive décor with white furnishings. All rooms feature air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

Guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast. The restaurant also offers design Mediterranean cuisine for dinner. There is also a poolside bar in the garden.

The hotel is located in Sitges’ charming old town and is just 5 minutes’ walk from Sant Bertomeu Church and the beach. The town’s railway station is less than 1 km away and there are regular trains to Barcelona, a 30-minute journey away.

The medium sitges park hotel, completely renovated in 2012, is located in a late 19th century Catalan modernist building in the lively, picturesque old quarter of Sitges. The reform work respected the inherent style of the hotel and introduced elements of freshness and Mediterranean tones. Its ideal location means that all points of interest are less than five minutes walk away as it is very close to the beach, entertainment centres and the train station. It has a restaurant, bar and a garden with a swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and fitted with all conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay.

For those traveling by train, it is a quick walk from the station. We had initially planned to drive, but I am glad we had a change of plans, because driving in Sitges looked terrifying! However, with this location so close to the train, it was ideal. Our room had a lovely little balcony, and we found so many things right within walking distance. A great location, the staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was great (any place that puts a bottle of Cava on their breakfast buffet is my kind of place!)

Really pleased with the room, shabby sheek feel and there was a great view over the courtyard / swimming pool.

The toilet was clean and accommodated our needs, there was a problem with ants in the bathroom, I let the reception know and I am not sure whether anyone came to room. We didn’t see that many ants after the call so assumed they had come and treated
There was a mini food bar stocked with supplies, we didn’t touch any of them and just used the fridge to keep items cool.

The room had a safe and you had to go down to reception and get a key, if you lost the key then you had to pay (could maybe upgrade to electronic safes)
The rooms were cleaned everyday and had no problems whatsoever I will address this separately later

Towels
You had to get a separate card from reception who issued you with the towel once handed in
You could only change the towel once every day.

Breakfast
The breakfast room is off the main courtyard near the pool and is excellent
There is plenty of choice and cannot complain at all. I even saw a bottle of cava near the juices
You can take your breakfast out and eat on the tables (just not recliners near poolside)
To summarise the breakfast was fantastic

Sun beds
It was really refreshing to see that there were signs on the sunbeds near the pool stating that you could not reserve or move the specific ones around the pool edge
There could obviously be a few more however due to the size of the pool, was in proportion. They have a section of chairs in the shade for those not wanting the sun

Pool
The pool is not huge however just enough to have a good swim. Half the pool is covered by shade (building) so can be quite refreshing when you go in, it is not a heated pool. I believe the pool is partial salt water however caused no problems
There was a little machine every morning cleaning the pool bottom. There is a no diving etc… policy and there is a shower not far away which requires you to shower prior to getting into the pool

Pool bar
The hotel I believe is centered around the pool bar, the staff are great and as you can imagine very busy.

5.  Dolce by Wyndham Sitges Barcelona 5* – Gay Friendly Hotels Sitges

Our last recommendation for a gay friendly hotels Sitges is a 5* hotel  – the only 5* hotel located in Sitges, Spain.

Located 2 km from the beach in Sitges, Dolce by Wyndham Sitges Barcelona overlooks Terramar Golf Club and the Mediterranean sea. It provides 4 solar-heated seasonal outdoor pools surrounded by gardens.

Modern air-conditioned rooms have free WiFi access, a flat-screen TV, and a private terrace with great views. There is a laptop safe, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. The private bathroom comes with a hairdryer, bathrobes and amenities.

Dolce by Wyndham Sitges Barcelona has 3 restaurants, 3 bars and a chill-out lounge, offering everything from à la carte fine wine and dining, to poolside snacks and cocktails. There is also a boutique restaurant serving local products. A 24-hour room service is also available. In summer, the property organises themed dinners and barbecues in the garden.

We loved the whole structure and unusual layout of the building, and the way the designers respected the view of the sea(East), the valley and pool and stone terraces (South and West) . Sun drenched the pool area where sun follows it along all day- and even in October we swam. I liked the natural rocky slope it was on.

The breakfast area with lovely wooden tables and chairs outside who opened up to a nice sea view. The layout can be tricky (at first) but then you get to see why they designed it that way.

The pool areas were well maintained, safe and spotlessly clean. All of the communal areas are what I would expect from a 5* and well kept. Our room had a huge TV, huge bed and fixtures to a good standard. The kids loved their little soft toys, dressing gowns, slippers and bag of toiletries on arrival; they felt like royalty. The shuttle to Sitges was great and easy to book/use. Some of the staff on reception etc seemed a little less friendly and matter of fact but the cleaning staff and the young men who meet and greet/run the shuttle go above and beyond. The indoor spa was nice and has a great view from its outdoor terrace.

Modern and architecture fitting into the environment. Clean rooms equipped with high quality furniture. All necessary connections like electricity and charging plugs for mobile phones available.

As Wyndham owners, we are very impressed with Dolce Sitges. Big airy rooms bath tub and wide screen and tea/coffee facilities.
