Lesbiangaybisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States have evolved in recent decades. However, LGBT Americans may still face some legal and many social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents, particularly in states with large conservative populations, such as in the Deep South; in rural areas; and in some Native American tribal nations.

U.S. federal law does not explicitly include protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. In June 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that sexual orientation and gender identity are included under “sex” as a prohibited ground of employment discrimination in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in the U.S. state of Indiana enjoy most of the same rights as other people, but still may face some challenges that non-LGBT residents do not otherwise face.
Bloomington has a long history of being a  gay friendly town and in downtown we can find a few gay friendly bars as well as The Back Door or Alley Bar are the  most famous gay  friendly bars in Bloomington, IN.

Great place to stay. Location is close to campus, dining and shopping. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking garage was nice since it was snowing. Room was nicely decorated and comfortable. Highly recommend The Graduate Bloomington.

What a great hotel, great room, and great location. They do the basics well; cleanliness, hospitability, and service. Then they layer unique room design, fun/creative decor, and an amazing atmosphere on top of it.

The hotel is located on historic Kirkwood Ave with easy walking to shops, cafes, restaurants, nightlife, and the entrance to Indiana University.

I will definitely stay here again and you should too!

The location is great; within walking distance of the campus. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The beds are so comfortable; I slept well (which is saying something). The café is an enjoyable place to grab a soda or homemade dessert.

Location is excellent, very close and within walking distance to campus. Hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. Design and decor were super cute and very unique. The Jack and Diane terrace would be a great spot to sit and watch the activity on Kirkwood. Rooms were great, beds very comfortable – everything seemed very new.

The Graduate Bloomington has become the highest-rated hotel in the BTown market. This 150-room, upper-upscale hotel opened in November 2018. This is one of the latest editions of the brand’s growing portfolio of 17 hotels around the country, primarily located on or near college campuses. The Graduate Bloomington features an ideal location on Kirkwood Avenue, within walking distance to IU’s campus and lots of restaurants.

Spacious common areas offer a nice array of seating and table formations for family gatherings. A unique outdoor courtyard and roof area offers additional recreational and meeting space when the weather is nice. Guestrooms and corridors feature attractive fixtures and finishes. We especially liked shower design and the bicycle wallpaper in the bathrooms, with a nod to the Little 500. We also appreciated the corridor carpet design, feature the Indiana state flag and Indiana’s state flower, the Peony.

. Overall, this is a very attractive hotel, with thoughtful design features, high quality furniture and finishes, in a superb location. It’s Bloomington’s only upper-upscale chain hotel. I highly recommend checking out this hotel while it’s sparkly and new!

Great location. The breakfast is a nice touch. The rooms are a decent size. I wish they served Starbuck’s iced tea as stated on the restaurant’s menu. Each time I ask for it, they tell me to purchase a bottle of ice tea from the cooler, and they are all out of it. Not everyone drinks coffee. There are a lot of great restaurants in close walking distance. If you are visiting a college student, the restaurant area has great places to study.

The rooms were clean and odor free, Pool was warm and inviting, Gym was top notch and clean, Breakfast was fine despite some of comments I’ve read. Scrambled eggs with bacon one day and sausage the next, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, the strawberries were sweet, juice was good, nice selection of toast. I don’t what more people want. Staff were top notch and friendly. Maintenance staff keep the hotel very clean.

Clean, comfortable, great hot breakfast, beautiful view in the 6th floor corner room, friendly staff. I couldn’t ask for more! I especially loved the lobby water that had fresh fruit, like cucumbers or strawberries in it, and the free USA Today newspaper was a nice touch. The gym was also great, with all the equipment you’d need, including free weights, and a nice view of a walking path to distract you from your pain.

Great location. Love the suite style room and full (hot) breakfast included. The staff is always very friendly and willing to help. I also love the location with easy access to the local fitness trail (b-line) and walking distance to restaurants and bars.

Excellent downtown location near shopping, local restaurants and bars and local theater. A walking/biking trail runs alongside the hotel. Rooms are spacious & clean, bed was comfortable and noise level low. Free breakfast is generous and delicious! Check in and check out were smooth. We like to stay here when we visit Bloomington.

This hotel has an ideal location downtown, and is within walking distance of restaurantsbars & IU. The rooms and public areas are very clean and the staff extremely courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a nice variety and was very good. I will definitely stay here again.

Sparkling clean rooms; free parking and other guest amenities..Located within walking distance of great restaurants, Irish Pub and other local. Pubs and small shops like bakeries, flower shops, and wine bars.

Breathtaking lake views from most rooms, with walk-out patios and balconies, in a relaxed setting.

This is a nice place to stay. Clean, employees are friendly, and has a lot to offer. We stayed Tuesday to Friday and arrived early and could check in. Our room was clean and stayed cool. The pool area is very nice, the pool was great and never really crowded. The view is awesome of the lake! The beach was closed due to high water, but not fault to the hotel. The beds were not great though. We had two doubles and both of them were equally rough to sleep on.

A lot of pillows, just maybe needed new mattresses in our room. That’s really the only downfall. They have a washer and dryer, but only had dryer sheets for sale in the gift shop. The putt putt looked nice. The balcony room would be the way to go and next time will be what we do! We rented a pontoon for an afternoon which was also a nice day.

The rooms were clean, the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant and bar and grill had wonderful food. Loved the bbq ribs. What I was most impressed with was how accommodating and friendly the staff was. Tony the manager was always friendly and always took care of my requests immediately. The in-room coffee was very good. I would certainly stay there again when in the area. The lake view was great.
