The hotel was rebuilt in 2000 from an old tuna fish camp and has a total of 162 rooms of which 43 rooms with river view and 5 junior suites suitable for families. The hotel has a 24-hour reception, lovely lobby area, a currency exchange desk, a luggage room, a chapel, a museum and a game room. Among the common areas guests may enjoy the air-conditioned TV room, bar and restaurant where free Wi-Fi internet connection.
A short ride from the town of Tavira, while passing through salt pans, makes this hotel an old tuna fishing village, an ideal one to relax and enjoy a quiet holiday with family. The staff were very very courteous, professional and efficient. The room given was facing the river. Really quiet and the walk to the room was through well kept gardens, the escola and a chapel.
The cuisine was amazing. The buffet was a wonderful spread, and the breakfast had a great choice of breads, salads, eggs, and continental items. The pool was always a delight always being used by the guests. The boat ride was wonderful to the private beach. A frequent free bus ride to the town is a bonus too. Definitely would go back.
Well located. Can walk or drive into Tavira. Great buffet breakfast. Room was very clean and had a small fridge and private patio. This eco hotel doesn’t use extra packaging on bathroom products. Can catch boat close by to go to beach island. We used the indoor and outdoor pools. Staff very helpful. We rented bikes and they delivered them right to the hotel. We biked along coast about 20km round trip. This is a very special spot.
The hotel is out of town but if you’re ok with that, you will appreciate this hotel for what it is. Untouristy, historic, eco-friendly, great facilities and the most helpful/courteous staff all helped to make this holiday perfect for us. Clean, comfortable room and fantastic food also. Would definitely return when looking for rest with a touch of luxury.
Eco-Hotel Vila Galé Albacora has a special appeal to people who enjoy nature. It stands on a natural park which by it self is a pro. On top of that the hotel itself is based on an old tuna fishing small village. You can imagine how this place was back in the days (visit their museum, it’s worth it). The location is superb, you’re not in the town per se (and that is definitely a plus), but close enough to enjoy what Tavira has to offer.
The staff is always ready to help with a smile of their face and the manager is 5 stars.
The food… well let’s just say that it won’t be easy to find the same quality (freshness, flavour, diversity) in town for the same value, not in your dreams.
Also people complain about the lack of light between the hotel and Tavira… it’s a natural park and Hote Albacora it’s a Eco-hotel and although they have nothing to do with the path that separates the hotel from the town of Tavira (that might have to be something related to the town hall) one has to realize that local fauna must be protected. I’m sure that there are a bunch of rules that have to be taken in order for the hotel to maintain that “Eco” prefix.
All and all is a unique experience that people should consider, weather with their families, with their loved ones and even by themselves.

As we entered our villa we were amazed at the great design incorporating elements of the island and also modern styling into every element. We could have spent days here! We immediately felt relaxed with the colors of the villa and the sound of the ocean. The villa was equipped with all the modern amenities we could ask for and it was very spacious. From our front door, it was only a few minutes walk to the beach where you could soak up the island life. I would describe the resort as eco-luxury with tons of style. Even though it was modern it felt very comfortable. For anyone looking for a special treat, we would recommend Santa Barbara Eco-beach Resort wholeheartedly.
We were able to enjoy breakfast and lunch at the resort. The breakfast is very delicious and features many local products from the Azores. One of the best things about the breakfast is just enjoying the amazing views of the ocean just outside. It is very easy to relax here. For our lunch, we had some great sushi which is said to be some of the best on the island. It was very tasty and fresh. The restaurant at this resort specializes in Japanese inspired cuisine using the abundance of fresh fish available on the island. We would recommend that you try the food here during your stay, you won’t be disappointed!
So if you’re considering coming to the Azores I would keep Santa Barbara Eco Beach Resort at the top of your list. It’s truly a remarkable place and we would stay there again without question.
