It’s set in a beautiful forest and the trees and wood cottages gave a sense of privacy. The place is very well kept and all the public spaces are clean. Every 20 min there was a small train passing that went around the whole resort that the kids loved to ride on.

We paid for the half board, which worth every penny. The food was simply amazing. In Hungary it is very difficult to find good sea food for a normal price, so we were totally impressed with the sea food selection.

Big guest rooms with lots of shelves & natural materials. Very suitable for families. The concept of eco philosophy is lived as a matter of course. Unique and very good food.

Very friendly staff. We enjoyed a few days there and were completely satisfied and convinced by the sustainable hospitality concept. If we had had more time we would have considered to join the hiking group led by the senior chef. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a stay in an innovative environment and a good base to explore the Meran region.

A great organic hotel, still smells of wood of which most is made. It is a very quite and still place. You do not hurry during your meals, which are very good. The stuff is always ready to help/advise you. Rooms are spacious, with balcony where you can seat and read. You will find many places for your rest, armchairs on each floor in front of big windows, near the indoor and outdoor swimming pool. There is sauna and fitness room – everybody will find something for himself.

Around beautiful mountains, hiking routes, beautiful small towns like Bolzano, Merano etc. It is a place where you can forget about hurry and noise. The hotel offers many attractions for the guests. A lovely place for nature lovers.

This is not a luxury hotel – it is much better. I have never thought that any hotel is capable of addressing the individual needs of each and every guest until we stayed there.

Everybody who realizes the importance of eating healthy organic food and living in a healthy environment without exposure to chemicals and radiation (no wifi in the rooms and TV-set only on demand) will be as enthusiastic about this hotel as we have been. We selected the hotel for this reason and were not disappointed.

The people are very friendly and so is the atmosphere in this family run hotel. The rooms were nice, modern and very clean. All in all a great experience.

2. Monaci delle Terre Nere 5* – Eco Friendly Hotels Italy

Monaci delle Terre Nere

An organic breakfast buffet is served daily. The property has over 100 species of fruit on site and produces its own vegetables, which can be enjoyed at the Locanda Nerello restaurant, open for lunch and dinner.

Set on an organic farm along the base of Mt. Etna, this upmarket hotel in a 19th-century residence with annexes lies 8 km from Guardia Mangano Santa Venerina train station and 15 km from Paradise Beach along the Mediterranean Sea.

Featuring vineyard views, the chic rooms have free Wi-Fi, minibars, Bose speakers and patios. Some offer exposed lava rock walls. Suites and villas add mountain views, fireplaces, outdoor hot tubs and/or living areas with pull-out sofas.

A breakfast buffet and parking are complimentary. There’s a lounge, a traditional restaurant and an outdoor pool. Loaner bikes and an area shuttle are available, both for a fee.

Stylish and sustainable, Monaci delle Terre Nere is a luxury hotel and countryside retreat situated on the slopes of Mount Etna, with views over the Mediterranean sea. With an 18th century villa at its heart, the eco-friendly estate has 27 elegantly-designed rooms, suites and villas in renovated farm buildings, scattered among 60 acres of fruit orchards, terraced vineyards and gardens.
With two restaurants: Locanda Nerello serving creative cuisine, and a poolside restaurant which is perfect for casual dining, the hotel champions slow food and many of the ingredients served are grown on the farm or are sourced from zero-km producers. Charming Convivium Bar serves imaginative Sicilian cocktails and the extensive grounds and scenic pool offers plenty of natural beauty.
The expert hotel team can arrange Sicilian cooking classes with the Chef, Etna wine tastings guided by the head sommelier, horse riding, yoga, private boat trips and even helicopter tours from the estate’s own helipad, to explore the volcano and coastline. Monaci delle Terre Nere is a peaceful base to explore Etna, Taormina, Catania and the beautiful eastern coast of Sicily, and is ideal for couples, families and friends.
An eco hotel 30 mins drive from Mount Etna. Stunningly quiet, tranquil. Very stylish, secluded and each accommodation is super tastefully yet simply done. We were upgraded and our “room” was bigger than most London apartments. Great wines. Lovely pool area. As it’s in the middle of nowhere you eat at the hotel – most people are only there for 1-2 nights but even in this short time you relax and unwind in the beautiful surroundings and silence. NB make sure you get up early once to watch the sunrise and Etna together – stunning.

Most of the rooms are actually in small villas in an astounding environment with breathtaking views. Service is great and the interior as well as exterior design is minimalist and innovative. Great eco restaurant with natural wines to compliment if you wish.

Most recommended if you like to take rest from the bustling Catania or everything else if you wish.

Beautiful hotel, stunning views, stylish rooms, great breakfast. The atmosphere is very calm, you can feel it used to be monastery. We stayed in Fiori room which had incredible view over the sea. The wine menu is great too, with extensive selection of Etna and organic wines.
They have great design details – from menus to art pieces hanging on the wall, and their ethos of organic / eco hotel is nice. Their kiwi plantation is great, and they serve fresh organic juices in the morning. We had a great stay, and would have loved to spend more time there.
It’s eco, so really liked that the bathrooms don’t have mini toiletries that you waste and get thrown away/nicked at end of stay. just good quality, organic products. We were in a suite, in an outbuilding: simply stunning decor, Sonos music, light, spacious, comfortable, modern, no stupid gadgets to switch on lights, great wifi, kettle, fruit, etc. Fantastic.
The staff were faultless, the attention to detail amazing.
The food all comes from the estate, and is delicious. The infinity pool overlooking the bay of Taormina, the view of Etna, the friendliness and professionalism of the entire staff (2 great sommeliers, Sara at reception, Mario, and others) and Anna and Guido the classy, welcoming young owners. We loved everything about our stay and can’t wait to go back.

If you tire of driving around the countryside, to Taormina, the island of Ortygia,
the Villa Romana del Casale, Mount Etna, etc, and just wish to kick back, there’s no better and more pleasant place than the swimming pool at Monaci. Here you can enjoy the sun, read your books, luxuriate in the Sicilian ambience.
And meet the friends you’ve made among the other guests: we were lucky to encounter several other couples that were as interested in art and antiquities as we are.
Monaci’s accommodations are various and charming, and decidedly not standard cookie cutter hotel rooms or suites: each one is a unique and intimate space.
We were in the Sontuoso Suite, a separate two-room building made of lava rock which once housed the old monastery wine press. Transformed into a guesthouse, it sits at the top of the property and offers gorgeous views of the landscape, the vineyards, cypress trees, down to the ocean. It is simply beautiful.
But also, not for the faint of heart: it is a bit of a hike to and from the main house, and to drive the twisty road up to it in your rented Fiat 500 takes a wild Sicilian spirit.
Or else. Total fun, we did a video of one drive up to Sontuoso, the Fiat bucking and spitting, the kids loved it.
And yes, the property is an eco-tourist working farm as well as a luxurious boutique hotel.
You are in the country, expect and delight in all the wonders of the natural world,
flora and fauna, the earth and its creatures.
On our tour of the property the delightful Nuwan introduced us to another Rosario, this one the head gardener: he put in our hands
pods of lima beans he’d just picked, we ate them with him and Nuwan out there in the Sicilian sunshine: unforgettable.

Some rooms and suites are located in the main building, while some are set in the annex. Luxury apartments are all set in a separate building only 300 m away.

Offering views of the Spanish Steps, this refined hotel with annexes lies a 5-minute walk from the metro, a 9-minute walk from Trevi Fountain and a 12-minute walk from the Pantheon.

The elegant rooms, suites and apartments come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities. Upgraded quarters feature whirlpool tubs, canopy beds and/or fireplaces. Some also have balconies, 17th-century frescoes, and/or Spanish Steps views. Suites add living areas, while apartments have kitchenettes or kitchens.

Amenities include free breakfast and afternoon snacks. There’s also a bar, a rooftop terrace and a lounge.

At the Inn at the Spanish Steps, boutique hospitality in a privileged location on the famed Via Condotti, and part of a new concept combining personalized services with a variety of luxury accommodation tailored to guest’s desires.
The main focal point being the Inn, housed in an historic residence with updated, classically styled rooms and suites while additional contemporary full-serviced apartments and suites are scattered about the immediate area.
Guests indulge in a leisurely customized breakfast on one of several terraces encompassing iconic views of the Spanish steps, tiled rooftops and domes, or return “home” to sip on an aperitif at sunset. An authentic Roman holiday experience.

The location is awesome – literally steps away from the Piazza di Spagna and walking distance to so many attractions. There are good restaurants and shopping in the immediate vicinity. The staff are super friendly and helpful.

We stayed not in the main building but a property a few steps down the street. Our suites were spacious even by American standards. The building had a vintage cage elevator that was so charming but proved to be somewhat of a nuisance.

Two sets of doors had to be manually closed in order for it to run, which means that if someone didn’t close the doors properly the elevator would be stuck on that floor.

Three times during our stay we had to get someone on the staff to run up to the top floor to send the elevator back down to the ground floor so we could ride. This was the only pitfall we experienced during our stay.

A breakfast buffet is included and it’s not just cereal and a hard, dry roll. It included smoked salmon, sliced ham & turkey, sliced cheeses, fresh mozzarella & tomatoes, fresh fruit, frittatas, scrambled eggs (they’d also make you an omelet or fried eggs if desired), bacon, toast, and a wide selection of pastries and breads.

You could eat indoors or out on the beautiful terrace.

Highly recommend this place. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat.

One thing I can’t forget to mention is the included breakfast. Each morning there were three large tables set with meats and cheeses, cakes and breads, smoked salmon, frittata, bacon, yogurts, fresh fruit, croissants, juices, etc., you name it, it was there.

Plus, Max was on hand to make eggs any way you like them (THE BEST poached eggs I have ever had) or coffee or whatever you wanted. Max made everything special. He accommodated my niece’s dairy allergy, he brought out panettone for the holiday, he made every morning wonderful.

Always warm and friendly, Max was a delightful part of our trip, and we will always remember him and Jessica fondly.I cannot recommend the Inn at the Spanish Steps enough. The location, literally AT the Piazza di Spagna is second to none.

You are centrally located to everything, and the apartment was a perfect place for our special trip to the Eternal City. We will definitely be back to Rome and to the Inn at the Spanish Step.

6. Lefay Resort & Spa Lago Di Garda 5* – Eco Hotels Italy

Lefay Resort & Spa Lago Di Garda

Lefay Resort is on the coast of Lake Garda in Gargnano, surrounded by hills and olive groves. It offers a wellness centre, panoramic views of the lake, and a free shuttle to the town centre. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

All rooms at the Lefay Resort and Spa Lago Di Garda are spacious, and provide a satellite TV. Each room has a lake-view balcony or terrace.

The property offers free access to the spacious Mondo Lefay Spa, which also features indoor and outdoor pools.

A generous breakfast buffet is served in the panoramic on-site restaurant, overlooking the lake.

Set on 11 hectares of parkland overlooking Lake Garda, this sleek resort lies 7 km from the town of Gargnano and 11 km from the Bogliaco Golf Resort.

Featuring Italian wood furnishings, the chic suites have flat-screens, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and tea and coffeemakers, plus terraces or balconies with lake views. Upgraded suites add living rooms, kitchenettes, Jacuzzi tubs and/or private pools. Room service is offered.

A breakfast buffet is free, as are parking, and shuttle services to Gargnano. There are 2 elegant restaurants and 2 bars. Additional amenities include an indoor/outdoor pool, a gym, and a spa with saunas.

Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda is located in Gargnano, one of the most picturesque villages on the lake.
The Resort, the first to be awarded the prestigious 5-star superior rating on Lake Garda, is situated inside an 11 hectares natural park in the heart of the spectacular and renowned “Riviera dei Limoni”, surrounded by gentle hills and natural terraces rich in olive trees and woods overlooking the lake.

The facilities are brilliant, plenty of sauna and steam rooms of different types, 3 different pools and properly heated so it’s hot all year round.

The addition of the ice pool is great, and the daily fresh snacks at 4.30 are well received.
The massages and treatments are very good, in fact it’s only missing a real mud bath.

The views from hotel are incredible and the best anywhere around lake Garda. Note that you need to travel up a winding road, to get to the hotel with plenty of hairpin turns.

Smaller cars are recommended with big engine, unless you’re used to driving in Italy around lake Garda.

The highlights of the stay were the superb spa with its variety of pools, huge indoor and outdoor hot tubs, saunas, hammams and the treatments available.

The spa is properly integrated into the resort and it is the sort of place where people feel comfortable walking around in their bathrobes, even going to breakfast in them.

The food and drinks are excellent and above all the service of the staff is outstanding.

There were plenty of staff available at all times and there were friendly, helpful and full of good advice.

The resort’s carefully chosen location enables you to watch the sun rise from either your bedroom or one of the pools, and also to to see it set over the mountains from the same location.

The bed was one of the comfiest (and largest) we have ever slept in and the room’s design was fabulous, made from the highest quality materials – the resort fully lives up to its eco credentials. We returned completely rested and relaxed.

Rooms are massive and very, very comfortable, with an eco vibe throughout. It was heaven to be able to walk out onto the grass and be close to the lake views in seconds.

The overall sense is one of conscious luxury, discreet but immaculate service.

It’s as if German/Swiss efficiency has combined with Italian warmth and generosity to offer the best of both worlds.

The treatments and specialised programmes are extremely well conceived and you are given a full breakdown of aims, results and helpful info to return home with.

Even on a weight loss programme, the doctors, nutritionists and chefs aim to feed you the foods that you enjoy (and I was told that I could even ask for a glass of wine, if I really wanted one!). Such is the sensual Italian way.

7. Borgo Pignano 4* – Eco Hotel Italy

Borgo Pignano

Located in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by the hills of Volterra and 750 hectares of private gardens and woods, Borgo Pignano has an outdoor pool, a children’s club and a restaurant. It offers accommodation boasting artwork and frescoes from the 18th century.

Rooms, suites and apartments at Borgo Pignano come with tiled or marble floors, a desk and most have a seating area. Some suites feature a balcony, while apartments have a furnished patio. All units come with en-suite marble bathrooms. The property is heated through an eco-friendly heating system.

To unwind and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Pignano, a wellness centre is at guests’ disposal, including a sauna, a steam room and hammam.

Set on a 750-acre hilltop estate, this upscale hotel is 16 km from the Duomo di Volterra and 19 km from San Gimignano museum.

The sophisticated rooms and suites in an 18th-century villa feature free Wi-Fi, antique furniture and fine Italian linens, and some have original frescoes and/or canopy beds. Suites add additional bedrooms or living areas. There’s also a cottage, a farmhouse and apartments. Room service is available.

Breakfast is free, and there’s a refined regional restaurant with a terrace. Other amenities include an outdoor infinity pool and a spa, plus yoga, cooking and art classes. Horseback riding and wine tasting are also offered.

Borgo Pignano is a charming private Tuscan estate on 750 acres of secluded and unspoiled fields, hills, woods and gardens near Volterra and San Gimignano, in the province if Pisa, between Florence and Siena. Pignano’s main building is an eighteenth century villa, surrounded by English gardens, with pristine landscapes that are unchanged from Renaissance times.
To the west, a series of hills unfolds towards the sea; to the east, woods and gardens are alive with the song of birds. There are 14 elegantly furnished rooms and suites, some with their original frescos and all with white marble or travertine bathrooms and spectacular views. An elevator serves every floor save the cellar. There are generous public rooms and dining areas and WIFI is available throughout the villa.
Our core values are, Tuscan Traditions & Heritage, Eco Sustainability, Certified organic agriculture & culturally connected.
Borgo Pignano is a place of rare beauty. Among all the amazing places in Tuscany it is probably the most charming one. There is an understated aged elegance to it, a harmony of nature, history, luxury and home feeling all in one. It offers a world in itself with the vast estate around. Once you arrive you want to stay forever in its blissful atmosphere far away from all the hectic world.
The grounds, the gardens and the surrounding hills and forests are inviting, with mesmerising views. The architecture is alluring, with a mix of historical buildings, terraces and swimming pools, all restored with great taste and a feeling for the historical value of the location. The accommodations vary from elegant villa suites to cozy countryside cottages, each room or apartment with its special character. And you have so much to do and discover: the organic farm, the horseback adventures, the arts that fill every corner of Borgo Pignano including the unique contemporary art gallery, the magical open air summer concerts, the delightful miniature spa, the swimming pool among the most spectacular in the world, the list goes on.
The staff is impeccable and humanly friendly. And once you decide to go outside this paradise you have all the treasures of Tuscany within a short drive among a splendid countryside, especially visit the majestic Etruscan town of Volterra just 10 minutes away.
This was really something different, set on in its own vast estate this hotel is charming and friendly. I am not sure if the word Hotel fits this beautiful place, the food is mainly produced on the estate, this really is a treat for people who like getting back to nature and an eco-type environment. The staff were fantastic, room exceptional, its seems every room has individual character.
There are three places to eat, a more formal restaurant with a modern theme to Italian food, a bit too modern for my taste and a less formal restaurant which offers excellent Italian dishes and gorgeous oven pizza’s. Breakfast is served in the main building and a lovely affair in the main building courtyard. The pool is lovely with relaxing views and the upper terrace where they serve evening cocktails is a most lovely setting for the evening.
The Borgo prides itself on its home-produced farm products, so we expected wonderful food. On the whole, it was excellent, and the reassuringly short menu changes daily – though occasionally we felt (particularly at breakfast) that they’d rather overdone the wholesome organic thing, at the expense of palatability. Too much eco bread, and not enough buttery pastries! Likewise, we had to ask for olives with our aperitif – otherwise you get served chunks of home-made focaccia, which is nice but a bit punishing before dinner.
The staff were always eager and friendly – though at times verging on the obsequious? Prices here are not cheap – but the economic model of a place like this means that the hotel guests are pretty much the recipients of philanthropy, as nobody can be making money with an operation of this kind. The Borgo are important local employers in a beautiful and under known part of Italy. Go there.
